Over the past few days, we’ve been part of something much deeper than just a visit to Kenya. Through the leadership of Elizabeth and the work of Kurunzi Fund, a group of international volunteers came together not only to experience the country but to contribute to something meaningful.
Two guests began their journey with a trek up Mount Kenya. A powerful and challenging adventure that gave space for reflection and a deep connection with nature. The rest of the team explored Nairobi, taking a game drive through Nairobi National Park and visiting the Karen Blixen Museum to learn more about Kenya’s history and culture.
From there, we all came together at Suswa Primary School, where the heart of the volunteer journey unfolded. Over several days, the team worked alongside teachers, students, and local staff to build a modern kitchen garden. This is not just a patch of soil. It is a step toward food sustainability. A space that will help feed hundreds of students for years to come.
The volunteers also spent time teaching in classrooms, sharing stories, and learning from the students. It was not just about giving. It was about listening, connecting, and growing together.
They brought supplies too. Textbooks, ball games, writing materials, and stationery. These items may seem small, but in Suswa, they mean encouragement and opportunity.
This was not put together by chance. It was led by Elizabeth, through Kurunzi Fund, with support from Wilderness Alternative Expedition. It is part of a bigger vision to connect people and communities through shared purpose.
Now the group heads to Maasai Mara. But what they planted in Suswa is still growing.
