Black-footed cat is Africa’s smallest wild cat, found only in southern Africa, mainly South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, and nearby dry grasslands or semi-deserts.
About 13,867 are estimated to remain in the wild, including around 9,707 mature adults, and they are rare because they live at low densities in scattered areas.
They survive by hunting at night, hiding in burrows or termite mounds during the day, and getting moisture from prey like rodents, birds, insects, and reptiles, so they can live without open water.
