🇮🇸 ICELAND, LAND OF FIRE AND ICE. 🔥❄️
Budget traveling around Iceland, is that even possible?
Last month I traveled around Iceland and tried to minimaxed the cost.
So here are my tips and tricks:
🚗Rent a car - the largest part of the budget goes to the car, so finding the best deal is essential. I used the website called Guide to Iceland to find the best car renting deals. https://guidetoiceland.is/iceland-car-rentals . The cost was 640€ for 7 days, during the main summer season.
⛺️Camping - Accommodation in Iceland is expensive, so to save a lot of money I choose to camp. There are many camps in Iceland and a lot of people do it. Just type CAMP into Google maps and I will show you most of the camps. The price for the camps is from 12-15€ per night per person. A couple of times the weather was bad ( rain and wind ), so I slept in the car, you just need to find a good place to park the car.
🍕Food - as everything in Iceland also food is expensive. But some of the camps have a small kitchen where you can cook, also you can buy a gas bottle and cook everywhere. I just went once to the supermarket in the capital Reykjavik, made a 50€ purchase for all food and it was enough for a week for 2 people.
🛤Plan the road - I didn't want to spend so much time in the car driving and use a lot of gas, so I made a travel plan just to see south of Iceland. There are plenty of beautiful places to see and there's no need to rush and try to see everything in a week or two. For the gas for the car, I spend around 200€, twice the full tank and it was more than enough.
🏡Use CouchSurfing in Reykjavik - there are a lot of people hosting in Reykjavik, I found a great host and it saved me a lot of money. Do not forget to buy some alcohol at the airport as it is very expensive in Iceland.
🛏The sleeping bag is the most essential thing you will need in Iceland. During the night it is super cold there, at least it was for me, so you need to have a sleeping bag that has a 5°C comfort limit at least. During the summer the temperature during the day is around 10°C and during the night it was less than 5°C. Without a good sleeping bag, you won't get much sleep.
In total the cost for one amazing week on budget traveling around Iceland for 700€ per person with flight ticket and extra baggage ( for tent and sleeping bags ) included. In my opinion, it's not much for one of the most expensive countries.
Soon I will post the whole itinerary with all of the stops, meanwhile, you can check the photos on my Instagram https://www.instagram.com/rasta_fx/
