Led by Hoon Hoon 이훈석 , who usually teaches his students through Zoom and Google Meet, the tour gave him the chance to see their progress in person, which was especially touching for him. Each day brought something memorable, making the experience even more meaningful.

What happens when you stop waiting for the perfect time to travel?

For Caroline, it means allowing herself to be curious. When she travels, she walks around with googly eyes, amazed by everything around her.

Dance had been part of Caroline’s life for years, but during university, she discovered a renewed passion for it. She started getting into K-pop, and this new interest kept her curious and helped her get through the pandemic. This passion marked the beginning of a new chapter for her.

Her Goodmate tour to Korea was her first time in Asia, which made it an especially meaningful experience. A great thing about the trip is the friends she made. She is still in contact with them today and recently went to a BTS concert with one of them.

When Caroline travels, she says, “I just feel like I am my best self.”

After our last art retreat with Sara, one guest said it felt “personalized and meaningful,” like an experience they could never have found on their own. Another called it the perfect balance of food, culture, and art.

That is exactly what we hope this journey becomes.

Our 2027 Korea Art Retreat with Sara Sara Tepes is a 7-day trip through Seoul, Jecheon, and Busan for artists, aspiring creators, and anyone who wants to experience Korea with more curiosity and care.

We’ll sketch, eat, wander, meet local artists, stay overnight at a temple, visit Museum SAN, spend time by the Busan coast, cook together, and share the work we made along the way.

But more than the itinerary, this retreat is about the feeling people remember most: creating in a new place, being taken care of, and finding friends who understand why art matters.

Every Goodmate journey begins with a person. Meet one of the people you’ll get to know on your tour.

Meet Yoana, a minhwa artist and founder of Yoana Seoul Minhwa Studio. To her, minhwa is more than traditional art, it tells the story of what Korean people hoped for and cared about.

Over time, Yoana has learned that the experience is not only about the artwork in front of her. It is about the people - understanding what they enjoy and what matters to them.

It means a lot to her when guests leave her class inspired to learn more, not only minhwa, but also Korean culture.

What happens when you leave the familiar behind?

Two hours outside Seoul, we arrived in Wonsando and joined local grandmothers in the mudflats to dig for clams. We had no idea what we were doing, but by watching and asking questions, our empty baskets slowly began to fill.

Later, we made kalguksu together, rolled the dough, and shared the noodles with freshly made kimchi. Somewhere between all these moments, we stopped feeling like visitors.

Before leaving, we gave the grandmothers a cold watermelon. One of them said, “Come live here with us.” It reminded us that meaningful travel is not about following the perfect itinerary, it is about showing up, learning from the people who call a place home, and creating something together.

We are still figuring out how to share experiences like this with others. But we left certain that this was not the end - with something to hold on to, and the feeling that there was still more to discover.

Korea became a sketchbook.

Together with Jackie Jackie Droujko , we moved through Korea with artists, dreamers, and people who were ready to see the world a little differently.

We met local artists, drew each other in hanbok, wandered through markets, and found quiet moments at the temple stay to breathe, reflect, and create.

Some moments were about art.

But many were about the people sitting beside us. The stories shared. The way strangers became familiar. The way everyone kept inspiring each other, without even trying.

By the end, it felt less like a tour and more like a small creative family moving through South Korea together.

This is what we love about travel. Not just the places you visit, but the people who change the way you see them.

What‘s the best thing you can do with your life?

For Sanne, it’s simple: make as many memories as possible because they‘ll last forever.

After a difficult period in her life and going through therapy, she asked herself, ”What does the new me want?“ The answer was travel.

She studied tourism, so she had always been fascinated by different cultures. But she never imagined herself visiting Japan, China, or even Korea. Then she watched her first K-drama, and everything changed. She wanted to experience the places she had seen on her screen in real life. She started learning Korean and joined her first Goodmate tour, a life-changing experience where she met people similar to her.

Now, travel has become part of who she is. By the time she’s back home, she‘s already booking her next adventure.
