🇫🇷 Day 25/30 — Montmartre & Champ de Mars Day

We explored the charming streets of Montmartre, admired Sacré-Cœur, discovered artists and hidden little squares, then ended the day with a simple family picnic at Champ de Mars with the Eiffel Tower right in front of us. 🗼❤️

1. 🚌 Getting to Montmartre

We took Bus 95, then transferred to Bus 40 to get to Montmartre. Once we got off, it was time for the uphill climb! 😅 Definitely wear comfortable shoes because Montmartre is full of slopes, stairs, and cobblestone streets.

2. 🥾 The Uphill Adventure
📍 Montmartre

The climb was definitely a workout! But the beautiful streets, little shops, and Parisian atmosphere made the walk worth it.

3. ⛪ The Beautiful Sacré-Cœur
📍 Sacré-Cœur Basilica

And finally—we reached the magnificent Sacré-Cœur Basilica! 🤍 Sitting high on the hill of Montmartre, this white-domed basilica is one of Paris’ most recognizable landmarks. Its bright white exterior, grand steps, and peaceful surroundings make it absolutely beautiful, especially when you see it in person.

⛪ The basilica itself is free to visit, while the dome has an entrance fee. We decided not to go inside this time because the queue was long and it was really hot. Sometimes, especially when traveling with family, you just have to choose what makes sense for everyone.

4. 🌆 The View of Paris
📍 Vue de Paris, Parvis du Sacré-Cœur

Right in front of Sacré-Cœur is a large square and viewpoint known for its Vue de Paris—a beautiful panoramic view overlooking Paris. We could see the city stretching out below us. Definitely one of those moments when you stop, look around, and realize, we're really in Paris! ❤️

5. 🍽️ Lunch with a View
📍 Sacré-Cœur Café

We had lunch at Sacré-Cœur Café. Tala’s kids’ menu was €12—chicken nuggets with fries, a crêpe, and juice. We also had an Americano, beer, and the dish of the day, cordon bleu for €14. The food wasn’t spectacular, but the relaxing vibe, the view, and the convenience of having a toilet made it a good family stop. 😄

6. 🚂 Montmartre Little Train
📍 Montmartre Tourist Train

There’s also a little tourist train that takes you around the Montmartre area for about 35 minutes. Tickets were €12 for adults and €6 for kids. A fun option if you want to explore without doing all the walking uphill!

7. 🎨 Place du Tertre
📍 Place du Tertre

One of our favorite stops was Place du Tertre, the charming little square famous for its artists. 🎨

You’ll see artists sketching portraits, caricatures, silhouettes, and pencil drawings of tourists. With cafés and restaurants surrounding the square, it has such a fun, artistic Montmartre vibe.

8. 🌳 Place du Calvaire
📍 Place du Calvaire

Then we found Place du Calvaire, a quieter little spot with benches and trees. 🌿 It was perfect for sitting down, taking a breather, and enjoying a more peaceful side of Montmartre.

9. 🚌 Back Toward the Eiffel Tower
📍 Castel Café

We took Bus 30 toward the Eiffel Tower and stopped at Castel Café to cool down. We ordered lemonade and peach tea—exactly what we needed after walking around Montmartre under the summer heat! 🥵🍋

10.🥖 Picnic at Champ de Mars
📍 Champ de Mars

We grabbed chips and snacks from a convenience store and headed to Champ de Mars. Then we found a bench, sat down, and enjoyed our little picnic with the Eiffel Tower right in front of us. 🥰

🗼 Why We Love Champ de Mars

If you want an amazing Eiffel Tower view without sitting in a restaurant, Champ de Mars is a gem! It’s a great family-friendly spot to bring snacks, drinks, or a picnic mat, relax on the grass or benches, and simply enjoy the view.

And honestly, having the Eiffel Tower as your backdrop while eating chips with the family?
Pretty hard to beat. ❤️🇫🇷

11. 🚌 A Scenic Ride Through Paris
📍 Pont Royal

After our picnic, we hopped on Bus 72 and rode toward Pont Royal. Another simple but fun way to see Paris while giving our feet a much-needed break!

12. 🍽️ Dinner at La Frégate
📍 La Frégate, Paris

We ended our day with dinner at La Frégate, where we had chicken and beef dishes of the day, served with salad and dessert. A satisfying way to finish another full day of exploring Paris!

13. 🇧🇪 Tomorrow: Belgium!

And just like that, another Paris day comes to an end. Tomorrow, we're leaving France for a day trip to another country—Belgium! 🇧🇪✨

Here are some useful things to know before taking an Italo high-speed train in Italy, especially if you're traveling with family:

🍝 You can eat and drink on board — You can bring your own food and drinks, or buy snacks and beverages on the train.
📶 Free Wi-Fi is available — Connect to Italo’s onboard Wi-Fi for internet access during your journey. Keep in mind that the connection can vary depending on the route.
🧳 Keep an eye on your luggage — Larger bags can usually be placed in the luggage areas near the coach doors, while smaller bags can go in the overhead racks. Keep valuables with you and don’t leave your bags unattended. If your luggage is stored away from your seat, check on it occasionally.
💺 Your seat is reserved — Your ticket shows your coach/carriage and seat number. Check the electronic displays and coach numbers when boarding so you get on the right car.
🚪 Know where your coach is before boarding — The train stops for only a short time, so check the platform display for your coach position before the train arrives. This is especially helpful when traveling with kids and lots of luggage.
🎟️ Have your ticket ready — Keep your Italo ticket easily accessible. You may be asked to show it to the train staff during the journey.
🔌 Bring your charger — Seats generally have power outlets, which are handy for keeping phones and tablets charged during the trip.
🚻 There are toilets on board — You don't need to wait until the next station if someone needs a bathroom break.
🚄 Italo trains are high-speed trains — They connect major Italian cities such as Rome, Florence, Venice, Milan, and Naples, making them a convenient option for traveling between cities without flying.
⏰ Arrive at the station early — You don't go through airport-style security, but give yourself enough time to find your platform, locate your coach, and get your luggage on board without rushing.

One important family-travel tip: If you have suitcases stored near the doors, I’d keep one adult nearby whenever possible, especially when the train is stopping at stations. Small valuables like passports, wallets, and phones should stay with you rather than in the luggage area.

DON’T GO TO PARIS WITHOUT READING THIS! 🇫🇷🥐

🇫🇷 Practice a little French — It goes a long way! Start with Bonjour, Merci, and Au revoir. 😊
💧 Tap water is safe to drink — Most restaurants serve tap water, so you don’t need to buy bottled water. Just ask for “une carafe d’eau.”
🚇 Know your Metro zones — Not every train or ticket works for every destination, so check your route before hopping on.
❄️ No air conditioning everywhere — Some older hotels and apartments may not have AC, especially in summer.
🧺 Picnics by the Seine are totally normal! — Bring some snacks, drinks, and a picnic mat, then relax by the river and watch the boats go by. 🥖🧃🚤

Watching the Eiffel Tower sparkle against the night sky was one of those travel moments we’ll never forget. Sometimes, the simplest moments become the most unforgettable memories—especially when you get to experience them together as a family. ❤️

🇫🇷 DAY 24/30 — A Louvre Day, Notre-Dame Mass & Eiffel Tower Light Show ✨

Today was one of those Paris days that felt packed with beautiful moments—from art and history to faith, food, and that magical Eiffel Tower sparkle. ❤️

🥣 Slow Breakfast Before a Big Day
We started the morning slowly with Tala having breakfast at home—yogurt and nuts—before heading out for another full day of exploring Paris.

🚶‍♀️ Walking to the Louvre
📍 Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel

We walked to our meeting point in front of the arch near the Louvre, excited for our Louvre day!

🎨 Our Louvre Tour — Straight to the Mona Lisa
📍 Musée du Louvre

We booked a tour with an es**rt specifically for the Mona Lisa.

Our guide, Lila, brought us through the entrance and showed us several highlights along the way—from the famous Louvre Pyramid to Liberty Leading the People, Joan of Arc, and finally… the Mona Lisa. 🖼️

Having an es**rt made getting to the Mona Lisa much easier, especially in a museum as enormous as the Louvre!

🗺️ Exploring the Louvre on Our Own

After seeing the Mona Lisa, we decided to explore independently.

We wanted the freedom to slow down, wander into rooms that caught our attention, and spend time looking at artworks that interested us.

We even did our own little research along the way. One painting that caught our attention was the enormous Napoleon Bonaparte painting.

👀 There’s SO Much More Than the Mona Lisa!
📍 Louvre Museum

One thing we quickly realized: the Mona Lisa is just one tiny part of the Louvre experience.
There are countless masterpieces worth seeing—David and Goliath, Napoleon, religious paintings, sculptures, Greek antiquities, and so much more.
If you visit, don't make the mistake of thinking the Mona Lisa is the only thing worth seeing!

🗺️ Louvre Tip: USE THE MAP!

The Louvre is HUGE, so make good use of the map they provide.

The museum is organized into different collections and sections, including Italian paintings, Greek antiquities, Eastern sculptures, and many more.

👉 Our tip: Before wandering aimlessly, look at the map and identify the sections you really want to see. It makes exploring much easier!

☕ Café Mollien — A Little Louvre Treat
📍 Café Mollien, Louvre Museum

By this point, we were ready for a break!
We went to Café Mollien on Level 1, one of the better café spots inside the Louvre.

We ordered two petit déjeuner sets with pain au chocolat, croissants, coffee and juice, plus an apple crumble tart for Tala. 🥐☕🍎

And the indoor seating has a beautiful view toward the pyramid and Ferris wheel!

📸 Louvre Hack: Get the Pyramid View From Above!

Here’s a little Louvre hack we discovered:
👉 If you want a great elevated view of the Louvre Pyramid, buy something at Café Mollien and head out to the terrace. It’s a great spot for photos and selfies overlooking the courtyard. 📸✨
Definitely worth it!

🛍️ Cafés, Souvenirs & Even Uniqlo

The Louvre isn't just galleries.
There are other cafés, souvenir shops, and even a Uniqlo museum shop, so there are plenty of places to browse when you need a break from all the art.

🍝 Lunch at the Tuileries
📍 Zapi Restaurant

After the Louvre, we walked over to the Tuileries Garden to find something to eat. Most of the restaurants were already full, but then we found an Italian restaurant called Zapi and we ALL agreed!

We missed Italian food! 🇮🇹😂 We ordered carbonara, Italian pizza and polpette. After weeks of traveling, it was comforting to have a taste of Italy again.

🎡 Ferris Wheel & Amusement Park
📍 Tuileries Garden Amusement Area

After lunch, we walked toward the amusement park area with the Ferris wheel and rides.

We didn't ride anything yet because it was SO HOT, so we decided to save it for one of our free days in Paris.

🏠 Back Home to Freshen Up

After all that walking, we went back home to freshen up before our evening plans.
But our Paris day was far from over!

🚌 Off to Mass at Notre-Dame
📍 Notre-Dame de Paris

At around 5 PM, we took the bus to Notre-Dame for Mass.

👉 Important tip: There are separate queues for regular church visitors and Mass attendees.
Look for the queue marked with the orange flag for Massgoers.

⛪ Mass at Notre-Dame — An Experience We’ll Never Forget
📍 Notre-Dame de Paris

Mass at Notre-Dame was incredibly special.
It was concelebrated by nine priests, and the cathedral was completely full.

Then the choir and pipe organ began. The sound filled the enormous cathedral. It was powerful without being overwhelming—almost like being surrounded by the choirs of angels. ❤️

But there was one BIG challenge: the heat! 🥵
There was no air-conditioning, and because we had to cover our shoulders, we couldn't dress as lightly as we would have wanted for a summer day. The doors and windows were closed, people were sweating, and fans were everywhere.

👉 Summer tip: If you're attending Mass at Notre-Dame during hot weather, bring a handheld fan and stay hydrated.

Still, despite the heat, we walked out feeling incredibly blessed.
This was truly an experience of a lifetime. 🙏❤️

🐌 One of Our Best Meals in Paris!
📍 Les Palais Deux

After Mass, we walked to Les Palais Deux, just a short walk from Notre-Dame.

And what a dinner! We had escargot, salmon pavé, roasted chicken with fries, and martinis. 🍷
Honestly, this ended up being one of the best meals we had in Paris! 😍

✨ Eiffel Tower Sparkle at 11 PM
📍 Trocadéro

Then we took the bus to Trocadéro for what might be one of the most iconic Paris views—the Eiffel Tower. 🗼✨

We waited for the 11 PM light show.
And then it happened…
The Eiffel Tower sparkled for five magical minutes.

After a long day, standing there with our family and watching the Eiffel Tower light up was absolutely priceless. ❤️

❤️ Three Paris Icons in One Day

We waited for Bus 72 to take us back to Saint-Germain, reflecting on the day.

The Louvre.
Notre-Dame.
The Eiffel Tower.
Three of Paris' most iconic landmarks—all in one day.

We were tired, sweaty, and completely exhausted…
…but so, so happy.

Some travel days are simply priceless. 🇫🇷❤️
