It is the noble month of Asala, when the sacred relic which the king placed on his head on the white cloth is resounding in solemn tone throughout the whole of the mountain. Neka Suwad flower lamp pujas and fourthly, the disciples enlightened their three minds and saw the living Buddha in this great month of Asala. Likewise, may my island receive the protection of Dhanta Dhatun, the most precious resource for us Buddhists, who sits in honor in the Sri Dalada Palace on the mountain..!
Save my island...!
May the Buddha's order be saved...!

KALUTARA BODHIYA
One of the Oldest Planted Trees in Sri Lanka
The Kalutara Bodhiya is one of the more sacred places in the southern coast of the island, as it is home to one of the oldest planted trees in Sri Lanka, which resonates strongly with the Buddhist faith. The sacred tree can be traced back to the 2nd century BC, during the reign of Anuradhapura’s King Devnampiyatissa. Even after the subsequent colonisation of the island that began from the 16th century until the middle of the 20th century, the sacred tree still exists and is venerated by those who pass it.

Religious Customs & Amazing Scenery
Due to its convenient location along the main road, and right next to the Kalutara Viharaya, many people who journey down to the southern coast of the island often make sure that they stop by the tree so that they can receive blessings for a safe trip. The Kalutara Bodhiya is also one of the best places to witness the coastal beauty of the island because this particular area is where the Kalu Ganga meets the Indian Ocean, creating a pretty spectacular sight. The weekends are often filled with devotees performing rituals, which provides a glimpse into the culture and faith of the people of Sri Lanka.
