Wildlife travel can look so different. 🌿

It can be the thrill of spotting a leopard in the Sri Lankan jungle, following big cats through India’s forests, watching elephants cross the savannah in East Africa, combining a safari with Cape Town and the coast, or walking through rainforest in search of gorillas.

And that’s what I love about wildlife travel.

There isn’t one way to experience it, and there certainly isn’t one “best” destination.

For families especially, the magic is finding the experience that fits your family: the ages of your children, what they’re curious about, how adventurous you want to be, how much time you have, and what you want the rest of the holiday to look like.

Some trips are all about wildlife.

Others weave wildlife into a much bigger adventure.

And that’s what makes choosing the right destination so interesting.

Some wildlife encounters stay with you long after the safari ends. 🐆

Sri Lanka has reminded me just how much there is to discover close to home. Leopards, elephants, sloth bears, whales and so much more.

But every time I experience the wild, it leaves me wanting to see more of it.

From the plains of Kenya to the forests of Rwanda, the waterways of Botswana and the landscapes of South Africa, there are so many different ways to experience wildlife around the world.

And maybe that’s what makes wildlife travel so special. No two safaris are ever the same.

The animal you want to see can become the reason you travel. 🌍

If wildlife were the reason for your next adventure, where would you go?

🇱🇰 Sri Lanka Series | Part 2

If you’ve explored Sri Lanka’s cultural heart, it’s time to slow the pace.

The south coast is where long beach walks replace early starts, surf towns replace ancient cities, and sunsets become the highlight of your day.

With just one base for three days, you can experience some of the very best of Sri Lanka’s coastline without constantly moving hotels.

Here’s how I’d plan it:

🌊 Day 1
Arrive in Ahangama and settle into your hotel. Spend the afternoon exploring the beach, discovering local cafés, or simply relaxing by the ocean.

🏄 Day 2
Take a beginner surf lesson (or enjoy watching the surfers), swim with turtles in nearby bays, café hop through Ahangama and Weligama, and end the day with one of Sri Lanka’s unforgettable sunsets.

🐆 Day 3
Continue your adventure to Yala for a safari, Ella for tea country and mountain scenery, or head back to Colombo. Along the way, stop at a turtle hatchery, a traditional mask workshop, or explore the historic streets of Galle Fort.

One of my favourite ways to travel is by choosing a base and exploring slowly rather than changing hotels every night. It gives you time to experience a destination instead of simply ticking it off a list.

This is Part 2 of my Sri Lanka Series.

🇱🇰 Sri Lanka Series begins!

If you’re visiting Sri Lanka for the first time, this is where I’d start.

Instead of rushing from place to place, base yourself in Sigiriya for 2 nights and explore at a slower pace. In just 3 days, you can experience ancient history, incredible wildlife and some of Sri Lanka’s most iconic landscapes, all without constantly packing and unpacking.

Here’s how I’d plan it:

📍 Day 1
Arrive in Sigiriya and settle in. If time allows, hike Pidurangala at sunset or visit the Dambulla Cave Temple.

📍 Day 2
Start early and climb Sigiriya Rock Fortress before the heat sets in. Spend the afternoon relaxing before heading out on a safari in Minneriya or Kaudulla National Park.

📍 Day 3
Enjoy a slow morning, then continue your journey to Trincomalee for the beaches, Kandy for the hill country, or return to Colombo.

This itinerary is one of my favourite ways to experience Sri Lanka because it combines culture, wildlife and beautiful scenery without feeling rushed, something I always look for when travelling as a family.

This is just the beginning of my Sri Lanka Series. Next, I’ll be sharing:
🌊 The South Coast
🌿 The Hill Country
🐆 Sri Lanka’s incredible wildlife
🗺️ And how to bring it all together into the perfect two-week itinerary.

If I could plan my Bali trip again, I’d change one thing.

Not the hotels.

Not the activities.

Not even the number of days.

I’d simply stop trying to experience the island from one base.

On a map, Bali doesn’t seem that large.

But once you’re there, traffic can quickly turn what looks like a short drive into a much longer journey, especially if you’re crossing between different parts of the island.

Looking back, I’d split my stay between two (or even three) areas instead.

I’d begin somewhere like Ubud, where the pace is slower and you’re surrounded by rice terraces, nature and culture.

Then I’d move south, whether that’s Seminyak if you enjoy restaurants, cafés and a livelier atmosphere, or Nusa Dua if you’re looking for calmer beaches and a more relaxed resort experience.

The goal isn’t to see more.

It’s to spend less time commuting and more time experiencing each part of Bali for what it does best.

One of the biggest parts of planning a trip isn’t deciding what to see.

It’s deciding where to stay.

That one decision can completely change how a destination feels.

That’s why I believe great itineraries aren’t about fitting in as much as possible. They’re about creating a journey that flows naturally.

💬 If you’ve been to Bali, is there one thing you’d do differently next time?

📌 Save this if Bali is on your travel list.

One question I always come back to when planning a family trip:

“What could my children experience here that they couldn’t experience at home?”

That’s the question that shapes almost every itinerary I design.

It probably won’t be another playground. Or another generic activity that could have happened anywhere in the world.

It’ll be the camel they rode.

The market they wandered through.

The unfamiliar breakfast they reluctantly tried.

The call to prayer they heard for the first time.

The monkeys they spotted in the wild.

The conversation with a local guide.

This doesn’t mean skipping the zoo or the play area. If it’s iconic or unique to the destination, a Night Safari in Singapore, Maid of the Mist at Niagara Falls, it absolutely deserves a place on the itinerary.

But if every day looks like it could have happened anywhere, we risk missing the very reason we travelled there.

I believe children should have fun on holiday. But travel also gives us something rare: the chance to show them how wonderfully diverse the world is.

That’s the balance I try to create in every family itinerary.

Because the best family holidays don’t just keep kids busy.

They quietly expand their world.

One of the biggest mistakes people make when planning Bali is trying to stay in one place for the entire trip.

Bali isn’t one destination.

It’s a collection of very different experiences, each offering something unique.

I visited Bali almost 10 years ago and, while I had a wonderful trip, if I were planning it again today, I’d do things differently.

I wouldn’t try to fit everything into one location.

Instead, I’d think about how the trip flows from one experience to the next.

When I research a destination, I’m not just looking at beautiful hotels or popular attractions.

I’m considering things like:

✓ The overall pace of each area

✓ Travel times between locations

✓ The type of traveller each area suits

✓ How to create a trip that feels balanced from beginning to end

Because the best itineraries aren’t always the ones that cram in the most activities.

They’re the ones that feel intentional, enjoyable and easy to experience while you’re actually there.

This is exactly the kind of thought process I enjoy bringing to the trips I design.

Have you been to Bali before? If not, which area would you choose first?

Or even the Nusa Islands

A friend recently told me:

“We wanted to go to the Maldives, but we never got around to planning it.”

Then she added:

“We’re terrible at planning trips. We’re always stuck with work.”

That got me thinking.

Most people don’t cancel trips because they don’t want to travel.

They cancel because planning feels overwhelming.

Researching destinations.
Comparing hotels.
Figuring out logistics.
Building an itinerary.

By the time you’ve finished work and family commitments, there’s no energy left for trip planning.

That’s exactly why I’m exploring travel curation as a service.

You tell me:
✈️ Your budget
📅 Your travel dates
🌴 The kind of experience you’re looking for

And I’ll do the research.

Because sometimes the biggest barrier to travel isn’t money.

It’s time.

🇯🇴 Our Jordan itinerary… and everything I’d do differently next time.

This was a rushed itinerary.

Jordan was a last-minute addition to our Egypt trip during a challenging period back home, so we tried to fit a lot into a little.

In a few short days, we managed to:

✔️ Float in the Dead Sea

✔️ Visit the Baptism Site and Mt Nebo

✔️ Explore Petra

✔️ Sleep in the desert at Wadi Rum

Would I do it this way again?

No.

But would I do Jordan again? Definitely!

If I could redesign this trip, I’d:

✨ Add more days

✨ Slow the pace down

✨ Do Petra by Night

✨ Spend time exploring Amman

✨ Splurge a little more on the Wadi Rum experience

The biggest lesson Jordan taught me is that some destinations aren’t meant to be squeezed into an itinerary.

They’re meant to be experienced.

📌 Save this if Jordan is on your travel wish list.

Have you been? Or is Jordan still on your bucket list?

FamilyTravel TravelWithKids SlowTravel MeaningfulTravel LuxuryFamilyTravel

One things we learned quickly: Jordan mid day heat in April is no joke!

If traveling with young kids, do not underestimate distances

Petra by night is one thing I regret missing

This was the part of the trip that surprised me the most

Sometimes spending a little more buys you a memory you’ll keep forever

Biggest lesson? Jordan deserves more time!
