Dear all,

I am Barbara Jayasuriya, a Canadian citizen who has resided in Sri Lanka for over 30 years as an investor and spouse. I am aware of the current challenges faced by expatriates in the country when obtaining resident, work and investment visas.

My goal is to establish a movement that will make positive and respectful yet empowered representations to the Government and assist expatriates to find a sustainable solution through consistent dialogue.

Given the strong initiative for corruption-free governance, I believe this is the perfect time to address the issue at hand. I have supported numerous expats in trouble over the years and following an initial presentation I organised in the Marriott Hotel in Weligama, which was attended by over 80 expatriates and in considering to some requests I have received, I will be organising a second presentation in Colombo on the 11th of December, Wednesday from 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. at the Royal Colombo Golf Club (223 Model Farm Road, Colombo) for the expats in Colombo. The speaker on the 11th will be Mr. Anu Perera a highly respected Senior Lawyer who has agreed to lead the representations professionally.

It’s my view that Sri Lanka holds great potential for expatriates to invest creating opportunities for Sri Lanka as well as other nations for expatriates to grow together. I believe the country could attract even more investment, benefiting everyone involved. Given the strong initiative for corruption-free governance, I believe this is the perfect time to address the issue at hand to find a possible solution for the corruption-riddled saga that has troubled and affected expatriates till now.
