“Safari in Sri Lanka? Isn’t it just chaos… too many jeeps and too much rushing?”
It’s something I hear quite often from guests coming from the UK and Germany.
And to be honest… I understand where that idea comes from.
Many people arrive with the same hesitation. They’ve heard the stories — crowded parks, drivers chasing sightings, everyone rushing to see elephants or leopards as quickly as possible.
And quietly, they wonder…
“Will this feel special… or just stressful?”
Because the truth is — that kind of safari does exist.
When there’s too much pressure to “find something”, the whole experience can feel rushed. Moving from one place to another, trying not to miss anything.
Yes, you may see animals.
But sometimes… you don’t really feel the moment.
And this is where I believe a safari can be different.
What if it wasn’t about chasing wildlife… But about giving nature the space to come to you?
Recently, during a safari with Ethical Safari Adventure by Ashan, we came across a herd of elephants.
Instead of moving closer, we stopped at a respectful distance and simply waited.
No radio calls. No rushing. No pressure.
After a few quiet minutes, something beautiful happened.
The elephants slowly began to walk towards us — on their own terms.
One by one, they passed gently in front of the jeep.
Calm. Natural. Undisturbed.
We didn’t move. We didn’t speak much.
We just watched.
And in that moment… nobody wanted to leave.
This is the kind of experience I try to create with Ethical Safari Adventure by Ashan.
A safari that is slower. More personal. More respectful — for both wildlife and people.
Not only focused on the “big sightings”, but on everything in between… the small behaviours, the quiet moments, the details that most people drive past.
Because when you slow down, something changes.
You don’t just see wildlife.
You start to feel connected to it.
Of course, nature is unpredictable. We cannot promise what you will see.
But when something truly happens… it feels real.
And that is what many of my guests remember most.
Right now, it’s also a particularly nice time to visit.
With fewer visitors in the parks, everything feels a little more open… more peaceful… more natural.
So if you’ve been unsure about doing a safari in Sri Lanka because of what you’ve heard…
Maybe there is another way to experience it.
If this sounds like the kind of safari you are looking for, you’re always welcome to message Ethical Safari Adventure by Ashan.
I’ll be happy to help you plan something truly meaningful 🐘
