🌧️🇱🇰 URGENT: Flood Warning, Travel Alerts & Visa Update for Foreigners in Sri Lanka

Dear friends and visitors,
Due to severe weather conditions and flooding across Sri Lanka caused by Cyclone Ditwah, many areas are under flood warnings. Roads, bridges, and some transport routes may be unusable. Please stay safe — here are some important safety tips and contact numbers 👇

🔒 Safety & What to Do

Move immediately to higher ground or safe shelter if you are in a low-lying / flood-prone area.

Do not attempt to walk or drive through floodwater — even shallow water may be dangerous.

Keep your phone charged; keep essential documents (passport, ID) and valuables in a waterproof bag.

Follow instructions from your hotel, host, or local authorities.

✈️ Travel & Flight Update
Air travel has been disrupted. As of 28–29 Nov: 15 inbound flights to Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) were diverted, and 16 flights delayed due to unsafe landing conditions.
Please check your flight status with your airline before heading to the airport.

🛂 Visa / Immigration Update
The Department of Immigration and Emigration, Sri Lanka has announced special visa-facilitation measures for foreigners whose departure is delayed due to the weather. Visa-extension fees and overstay penalties will be waived for travellers affected by flight cancellations or travel disruption.
Short-term Tourist or Business visa holders (and residents) will be granted a 7-day grace period to complete their visa-extension formalities.
