Sri Lanka welcomed nearly 200,000 international tourists in August 2025, marking a 20.4% increase from the previous year. Key contributors to this surge include India, the UK, Germany, and China.

India remained the top source, sending 46,473 visitors (23.4% of total arrivals). Other leading countries include:

United Kingdom: 19,764 visitors
Germany: 12,500 visitors
China: 12,294 visitors
France: 10,495 visitors

From January to August 2025, Sri Lanka hosted 1.57 million tourists, with India contributing 325,595 arrivals, followed by Russia (118,916) and the UK (151,141).

Travel And Tour World (TTW) highlighted that Sri Lanka’s tourism growth showcases its resilience and strengthens its status as a premier South Asian destination. The country’s focus on sustainability, eco-tourism, and cultural preservation has positioned it as a leading choice for responsible tourism, attracting travelers interested in eco-friendly resorts, wildlife sanctuaries, and nature-based activities.
