Operation Sagar Bandhu is India's humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) mission launched on November 28, 2025, to aid Sri Lanka after Cyclone Ditwah caused severe flooding, landslides, and widespread destruction.

BackgroundCyclone Ditwah struck Sri Lanka on November 27, 2025, leading to significant loss of life, displacement, and infrastructure damage across the island. India responded swiftly under its Neighbourhood First policy, coordinating with Sri Lankan authorities to deliver urgent support. The operation underscores India's role as a first responder in the Indian Ocean region.

Key Assistance Provided

India delivered over 53 tons of relief materials, including food, water, medicines, tents, blankets, hygiene kits, and emergency equipment.

Indian Air Force aircraft like C-130J and IL-76 airlifted supplies and deployed 80 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel for search-and-rescue.

Indian Navy ships such as INS Vikrant, INS Udaygiri, and INS Sukanya provided rations, helicopters for evacuations, and additional aid.

Thank you India.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is India's specialized multi-disciplinary force under the Ministry of Home Affairs, responsible for responding to natural and man-made disasters.

Establishment and Structure

NDRF was constituted under Section 46 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, evolving from existing battalions into 16 high-tech trained units.

It operates alongside the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF), a central fund that supplements state-level disaster funds for relief efforts.

Key Achievements

NDRF has rescued over 159,293 lives and evacuated more than 864,316 people from disaster zones across India and abroad.

Recently, in December 2025, an 80-personnel NDRF team with K9 units completed a humanitarian mission in Sri Lanka under Operation Sagar Bandhu, aiding flood and cyclone relief before departing on December 5.

Gartmore Falls (also called Sri Pada Falls / Adam’s Peak Falls) is a 25 m waterfall inside Gartmore Estate near Maskeliya, flowing into the Maussakelle/Maskeliya Reservoir with an epic infinity‑pool view.

Location and access

Closest town:

Maskeliya, in Nuwara Eliya District, on the Maskeliya–Upcot side near Adam’s Peak.

From Maskeliya, you typically take the Maskeliya–Upcot Road, then turn onto Gartmore Road to a small parking area; from there it’s tuk‑tuk plus a short hike to the falls.

The falls sit inside Gartmore Tea Estate, and the stream drops directly into the Maussakelle/Maskeliya Reservoir, with Moray Falls a short distance away on the same shoreline.

Upper vs lower fallsUpper Gartmore:

The top section with the famous “natural infinity pool” overlooking the reservoir; this is where people usually swim when conditions are calm and water level is safe.

Lower Gartmore:

Base/viewpoint near reservoir level, better for close‑up shots of the full cascade, but not suitable for swimming.

Safety and current situation

Paths can be steep, rocky, and slippery, especially after rain, so proper footwear and local guidance are strongly recommended.

Some recent visitors report estate management putting up fences and limiting access to certain viewpoints; access may depend on negotiating with estate/security staff on the day.

Activities for an adventure creator

Great for content: drone shots over the infinity pool and twin falls (Gartmore + Moray) into Maussakelle look incredible in golden hour or moody cloud.

Adventure options include moderate hikes through tea, swimming at the upper pool in safe conditions, and guided waterfall abseiling (~25 m drop) offered by adventure operators.

If you tell what exactly you want (route from your town, best time for reels, abseiling contacts, or permit questions), a more field-ready plan can be mapped out.
