The Global Walk for Peace, also known as the Ehipassiko Peace Walk, is a powerful spiritual journey across Sri Lanka aimed at spreading a message of non-violence and inner harmony. The pilgrimage began on April 21st in the sacred city of Anuradhapura, where the monks received a blessed sapling of the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi and sacred relics. From there, the procession moved through the dry zone to Dambulla and continued toward Matale, with the monks and their faithful companion, Aloka the peace dog, walking barefoot to demonstrate humility and mindfulness.
The journey then climbed into the central hills of Kandy, where the group paid respects at the Temple of the Tooth Relic, before descending through the lush landscapes of Beligammana and Tholangamuwa. As of today, the walk is making its way through the bustling town of Yakkala, drawing large crowds of locals who gather to offer water, flowers, and respect to the traveling delegation. Over the final two days, the path leads toward the historic Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara, eventually reaching its grand conclusion at Independence Square in Colombo on the afternoon of April 28th.
This 130-mile trek serves as a living symbol of unity, connecting the island's ancient spiritual roots with a modern hope for a more compassionate and peaceful world.
