💙 **A Breathtaking Wonder Hidden Beneath the Earth… 🇱🇰**
Sri Lanka is full of incredible places, but some of its most fascinating treasures are hidden away from the usual tourist routes.
One of them is **Nil Diya Pokuna**, near Ella — a remarkable underground blue pool surrounded by a natural cave environment.
Recently, we visited this amazing place with our French guests 🇫🇷, and the journey itself became an unforgettable adventure.
After entering the cave, we descended through **metal stairways** and continued along a natural, rocky underground route. The cave becomes darker as you go deeper, and we travelled approximately **2 km** through the underground passage before reaching the pool.
Our local guides accompanied us throughout the journey. The **entrance ticket includes a local guide**, so there is no separate guide fee. The guides also provide **torches/headlamps and helmets** for the cave experience. 🔦⛑️
And finally… we reached **Nil Diya Pokuna.** 💙
The beauty of the water is difficult to describe. It is incredibly clear, allowing you to see the rocks beneath the surface. When the water is completely still, it can almost appear as though **there is no water there at all.**
It is a truly unique experience — walking through darkness beneath the earth and suddenly discovering a beautiful, crystal-clear blue pool. 🌊✨
The area is also surrounded by local legends connected with **King Ravana**. While these stories are part of local folklore rather than historically proven facts, they add an interesting sense of mystery to the destination.
