🌊 Hummanaya Blow Hole — Sri Lanka

The Hummanaya Blow Hole is one of Sri Lanka’s most unique natural attractions and the second-largest blowhole in the world. It is located near the fishing village of Kudawella, close to Tangalle on the southern coast.

📍 What is a Blow Hole?

A blowhole is a natural sea cave formed by waves from the Indian Ocean crashing into rock formations.

At Hummanaya:

* Sea water enters an underwater cave.
* Pressure builds as waves rush in.
* Water shoots vertically through a hole in the rock like a natural fountain.

💦 Water can rise 20–30 meters high depending on sea conditions.

Sri Lankan Tea Plucking – A Beautiful Tradition

Tea plucking in Sri Lanka is one of the most iconic cultural activities, especially in the Central Highlands—Nuwara Eliya, Ella, Haputale, Kandy, and the Hill Country.

👩‍🌾 Who Plucks the Tea?

Most tea pluckers are skilled Tamil women working on tea estates. They have years of experience and are very fast and accurate.

🍃 How Tea Is Plucked

Only the “two leaves and a bud” are picked.
This ensures the best flavour, aroma, and quality.

Pluckers move through long rows of tea bushes.

They pick the young leaves using one hand and hold the collected leaves in a basket (usually tied to their head or back).

They can pluck 18–20 kg of fresh leaves per day.

⛰️ Working Environment

The work is physically demanding:

Steep hillsides

Strong sun or rain

Long hours
But done with great skill and grace.

🌱 Why It’s Important

Sri Lanka is one of the world’s largest tea producers. Tea plucking is the first and most important step in producing Ceylon Tea, famous worldwide.
