The best time to see sloth bears in Kumana National Park, Sri Lanka, is during the dry season from April to September. Here’s why:

Dry Season Behavior: During this time, water sources shrink, so wildlife—including sloth bears—congregate near the remaining waterholes, making sightings more likely.

Fruit Season: Sloth bears are fond of wild fruits like palu (Manilkara hexandra), which ripen during the dry season, especially around June and July.

Early morning and late afternoon are the best times of day for a safari, as sloth bears are typically nocturnal or crepuscular but may be seen foraging during cooler daylight hours in the dry season.
