Securing the coveted number one spot in the global platform's seventh annual list of "The 50 Best Islands in the World," the island nation completely outpaced some of the most celebrated and established vacation hubs across the globe.
The authoritative annual ranking evaluates worldwide destinations based on a strict combination of editorial assessments, social media popularity, previous media coverage, and emerging global travel trends.
Sri Lanka captured the peak position due to its unique, concentrated diversity. Big 7 Travel highly praised the island's 833-mile coastline, mist laden central highlands, and iconic UNESCO World Heritage sites like the Sigiriya Rock Fortress.
Furthermore, the platform highlighted the country's exceptional biodiversity, citing wildlife safaris in Yala National Park and the country's famous lush tea estates as critical driving factors behind the ranking.
In securing the ultimate title, Sri Lanka led an elite top five that included Mo'orea in French Polynesia in second place, followed by Socotra in Yemen, Madeira in Portugal, and Ecuador's Galápagos Islands.
The publication concluded that Sri Lanka provides an unmatched, rewarding blend of natural beauty, history, and culture echoing the legendary words of explorer Marco Polo, who famously called it "the finest island of its size in all the world."
