🐆🐘 YALA NATIONAL PARK 🐆
Yala National Park is Sri Lanka’s most visited wildlife reserve, renowned globally for having one of the highest population densities of leopards in the world.
Spanning nearly 979 square kilometers in southeastern Sri Lanka across the Southern and Uva Provinces,
the park features diverse ecosystems ranging from dry monsoon forests and scrublands to grassy plains, freshwater lakes, and coastal lagoons.
Wildlife & Biodiversity.
Home to 44 mammal species and over 215 bird species (including six endemic to Sri Lanka). It is best known for Sri Lanka's "Big Three" land
mammals.
the Sri Lankan leopard, the Sri Lankan elephant, and the Sri Lankan sloth bear, alongside mugger crocodiles and water buffaloes.
Park Structure.
Divided into five blocks, with Block 1 being the primary zone open to visitors and offering the highest frequency of leopard sightings.
Cultural Sites.
Houses ancient historical landmarks within its boundaries, including Sithulpawwa, a 2,000-year-old rock monastery that once accommodated thousands of Buddhist monks.
Visiting Details.
Open daily from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The best time for game drives via open , jeep safaris is during early mornings or late afternoons when animal activity peaks around waterholes. Call to book a Yala National Park Safari in advance.
