🚨 Dogs Used as Leopard Bait in Sri Lanka’s Sanctuaries - AWC Calls for Immediate Action 🚨

The Animal Welfare Coalition (AWC) can no longer remain silent about this horrifying and deliberate abuse of both wild and domestic animals under the guise of “eco-tourism.”

We are witnessing disturbing reports and videos of "engineered wild animal hunts", where dogs and possibly other animals like hares and deer - are used as bait to attract predators, often leopards, roping in both local and overseas tourists enthusistic on leopard sightings and/or some sadistic tourists seeking gruesome thrills.

These are not random wanderings of stray animals but planned and meticulously executed operations for profit, cashing in on both local and foreign tourists.

Such barbaric Medieval Age practices, disguised as tourism, cannot continue without the complicity of influential insiders.

The AWC, as the voice for the voiceless, has formally appealed to the Ministries of Wildlife, Tourism, and Justice, urging them to:

1️⃣ Launch an immediate investigation into these engineered hunts.

2️⃣ Ensure the Department of Wildlife Conservation (DWC) takes strong preventive measures.

3️⃣ Punish all responsible parties, regardless of affiliations.

4️⃣ Implement stringent checks on safari vehicles entering sanctuaries.

This is a blatant assault on Sri Lanka’s reputation as a compassionate and ethical tourist destination.

We also question whether these events are being deliberately orchestrated to tarnish our country’s image.

The AWC calls upon the government to end this gory blood sport masquerading as modern tourism and take immediate, decisive action to protect our wildlife as well as domestic animals.

🔴 It’s time to STOP THIS.
