How Will NIMBO Reconcile With the Unity Party?

As the 2029 presidential and general elections draw closer, political observers are beginning to speculate about the future relationship between NIMBO and the Unity Party.

During the 2023 electoral period, NIMBO's political leader, Representative Thomas P. Fallah, emerged as one of the Unity Party's strongest political opponents, particularly in Lofa County, the home county of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai. That election period was marked by intense political rivalry and violence in some areas, resulting in the loss of lives and the eventual defeat of then-Representative, now Minister of Internal Affairs, Hon. Francis S. Nyumalin.

Since then, the political exchanges between members of NIMBO and the Unity Party have remained tense. Public statements and political criticism from both sides have continued to fuel speculation about whether the two camps can rebuild their relationship before the next elections.

For example, Minister Nyumalin was widely reported as making remarks that many interpreted as a jab at Representative Thomas P. Fallah, saying, "If you want to be a dog, be a dog. Don't be a dog in a cat's form." The statement generated discussion among political supporters and observers.

More recently, reports alleged that Representative Thomas P. Fallah donated US$2,000 through Mr. Eric Esseh toward the renovation of the Unity Party's headquarters in Voinjama. Shortly afterward, it was also reported that Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) Acting Chairperson Hon. Clarence Massaquoi presented US$5,000 to Mr. David Mawolo for the renovation of the same headquarters, reportedly recognizing Mawolo as the legitimate county chairman. These reports have fueled further debate over leadership recognition within the party at the county level, although the claims have not been independently verified.

In addition, the political disagreements between Representative Momo S. Kpoto of NIMBO and Hon. Clarence Massaquoi of the Unity Party have become increasingly visible, reflecting the broader rivalry between the two political camps.

The central question remains: Can NIMBO and the Unity Party reconcile before the 2029 elections?

Decision to Consider Without Partiality

As preparations continue for the upcoming National County Sports Meet, we respectfully remind the Lofa County Sports Steering Committee to make decisions based on merit, fairness, and performance.

George Reeves Jr. has demonstrated that he is one of the most accomplished football coaches in Lofa County today. For this reason, he deserves serious consideration for inclusion in the county's football coaching staff.

Coach Reeves Jr.'s reputation is built not on opinion or personal preference, but on proven results. As Head Coach of Voinjama City Football Club, he guided the team to an unbeaten championship in the Voinjama District LFA Sub-Committee Third Division League. He also led the club to victory in the LFA Lofa Sub-Association County Playoffs, crowning Voinjama City FC as champions of Lofa County. In recognition of his outstanding achievements, he was honored by the Liberia Football Association as the Best Coach in Lofa County.

Such accomplishments should not be overlooked when selecting individuals to represent Lofa County at the National County Sports Meet. Performance, dedication, and proven leadership should be the primary criteria for appointments.

We therefore call on the Lofa County Sports Steering Committee Lofa County Sports Association - LOSA to prioritize football development within the county and ensure that decisions reflect the realities on the ground. The practice of making key sporting decisions from Monrovia, without adequately recognizing the achievements of coaches and stakeholders actively working in Lofa, risks undermining local sports development.
