Morija

A pretty town and an important educational centre, is located deep
in the Caledon valley. The town is the site of the earliest mission in Lesotho, founded in
1833. This town is the site of the National Museum, Although small, it is well laid out
with some very interesting exhibits covering history, ethnography, palaeontology and the
future of Lesotho. The museum provides a clear insight into the Kingdom’s history
from Moshoeshoe I. There are also some priceless prehistoric finds and fossils.

Katse Dam

This dam is second in size (in Africa) only to the Lake Volta Akosombo Dam
in Ghana. The view of this massive dam from Mafika Lisiu Pass is magnificent and is often
of great interest to visitors. The centre piece of the whole project is the dam wall which
is the highest in Africa. An area of the lake will be devoted to water sports.

Mountain Passes

The road to Molimo Nthuse, one of the principal pony-trekking centres of
Lesotho takes you over a series of major mountain passes before reaching Thaba-Tseka, a
new and exciting area just opening up to tourism. Each pass offers superb vistas of
mountain peaks, steep gorges, tumbling streams and broad valleys. Bearded Vultures and
other unusual birds can often be seen from the pass summits. This is one of the most
attractive tourist routes in Lesotho.

Ha Baroana Rock Paintings

Ha Baroana meaning 'the home of the bushmen' is the name of an overhanging rock by the Liphiring Stream, outside of Maseru. Here the San have left a magnificent gallery of paintings of animals such as leopard, lion and eland, as well as blue crane and guineafowl. There are also fine paintings of bushman life - hunting, dancing, and people in huts.

Sehlaba-Thebe National Park

Is the only official National Park in Lesotho. Half the fun of Sehlabathebe National Park is getting there, since it is rather remote. You need a 4X4 vehicle but even then you could be stuck going in or out waiting for a river to go down after heavy rains. The average elevation of the park is some 2,400 metres which means you can get altitude sickness.
Sehlabathebe National ParkIf you do arrive in Sehlabathebe National Park then the best thing to do is go on a hike or a pony trek to fully enjoy the scenery. It maybe a good idea to take a guide with you on your excursions (there is always someone willing to take you for a minimal fee) as it is easy to get lost if a thick mist descends

Sani Pass

The Lesotho border post is at Sani Top. The Sani Pass was originally a bridle trail for pack animals and was opened up to vehicle transport in the 1950's.
Sani Pass links the spectacular scenery of the Drakensberg with the attractions of Northern Lesotho, as well as South Africa’s Golden Gate National Park via Caledonspoort or Monontsa Pass.

Mokhotlong

Mokhotlong meaning ‘The Place of the Bald Ibis’, in Sesotho (mokhotlo), is rich in birdlife, including the Bald Ibis, Verreaux’ Black Eagle, Cape Vulture and the Bearded Vulture. It is the main centre of a vast mountainous area in the east of the country.
