Happy birthday, Estonia! 🇪🇪

Although Estonia’s official Independence Day (Eesti Vabariigi aastapäev) is celebrated on 24 February — the day when the declaration was formally issued in Tallinn — the first public proclamation actually happened in Pärnu a day earlier.

For this reason, Pärnu is celebrated locally as the birthplace of the Republic of Estonia and many events start there on 23 February with processions and ceremonies.

Even in cities, you will find mushroom charts on kitchen walls. Foraging is not an escape from modern
life - it is part of it.

Bogs. Covered in moss, dwarf pines, and mirror-like pools, these places feel timeless.

Snowshoes isn’t a hike — it’s a slow, floating experience. It’s where people go to hear themselves think, or not think at all.

From students to grandmothers, people across Estonia take icy dips every winter. Some join organized clubs. Others go alone, slipping through the hole in silence, then warming up in a wood-
fired sauna just meters away.
