Let me be very clear: I think ChatGPT is absolutely AMAZING and I speak to it possibly more than I speak to Steve 😂

Honestly, I’m not sure I would have survived moving to Japan without it. It has helped me translate paperwork, understand labels, practise Japanese, navigate unfamiliar situations and answer approximately 4,000 questions a day.

I also use AI in my business. It’s brilliant for generating ideas, exploring possibilities, organising information and providing a useful starting point.

But there is a time and a place for it. And it’s not always 100% accurate (we’ve been to many a ‘dog friendly’ restaurant in Japan that is exactly the opposite!)

AI can suggest an itinerary, but that isn’t the same as accessing live availability, checking the correct room occupancy or making sure your itinerary flows properly.

It can respond to everything you tell it but it doesn’t know that your teenager needs a proper bed, that you hated being isolated at your last hotel, that you’ll happily compromise on the room but never the flight times, or that “relaxing” means something completely different to every single member of your family.

And when a flight is cancelled at midnight, AI might explain your options but won’t take responsibility for rearranging your hotel, transfers and onward journey while you continue to enjoy your holiday.

That’s where experience, human connection and real relationships still make the difference.

After nearly 15 years in travel, so much of what I do is reading between the lines, spotting potential problems, speaking directly to trusted partners and being there when a client needs an actual person.

So yes, I absolutely do love ChatGPT… but I still wouldn’t give it my hard earned money to book a holiday for me.

SUMMER 2027 | The trips worth planning now ✈️ 🌍

Summer 2027 might feel like a very long way off… but if you’re dreaming of something bigger than a standard summer holiday, now is exactly when I’d start thinking about it.

These are the holidays where planning ahead really matters. And with the longer summer break, it’s the perfect opportunity to go further, travel slower and experience somewhere properly.

So, if Summer 2027 is the year for that safari, epic road trip, wildlife adventure or bucket-list journey you’ve been talking about forever… this is your sign to start planning it. ✈️

Two weeks in Thailand 🇹🇭

If you’re visiting Thailand for the first time, this is how I’d spend 14 nights.

Start amongst the temples, markets, street food and organised chaos of Bangkok, before heading north to Chiang Mai for a slower pace, incredible food, beautiful temples and a taste of northern Thailand.
Then swap city life for the jungle and rainforest of Elephant Hills, where limestone cliffs, jungle, wildlife and floating camps offer a completely different side to the country.
And finally? Khao Lak. Five nights of beautiful beaches, tropical sunsets and doing very little at all after a fairly adventure-packed first week.

One important caveat: the best Thailand itinerary changes with the seasons.
For travel during our UK summer months, I’d usually swap Khao Lak for Koh Samui, where the weather tends to be more favourable at that time of year.

Thailand isn’t a destination where I’d recommend simply picking a beach resort and hoping for the best as choosing the right coast for your travel dates can make a huge difference.

9 hotels your teenagers might actually admit they like…
Because once the kids’ club and mini disco days are behind you, finding a family holiday everyone is genuinely excited about can become a little trickier.

Teenagers want adventure, independence, cool experiences and, let’s face it, somewhere that looks pretty good on Instagram and TikTok too.

So, where actually works?
The secret to travelling with teenagers isn’t necessarily finding somewhere labelled family-friendly. It’s finding a holiday that gives them something to get excited about.
Somewhere they can learn to dive. Take control of a sailing boat. Surf in Costa Rica. Explore Tokyo without feeling like they’re being dragged around sightseeing. Make new friends on a cruise. Ride through the Montana wilderness. Or swap another week beside the pool for an actual adventure.

And increasingly, somewhere that gives them a little freedom to do their own thing while you get to enjoy your holiday too.

Because we’re absolutely not spending thousands of pounds just to relocate teenage boredom to a more attractive backdrop.
