Food On The Trek

Meals on our Morocco tours are cooked by the Berber muleteer and the food is fresh and healthy.

For example breakfast might be jam, bread and butter, cookies, fruit, juice and coffee or milk.

Lunch may be salad with tomatoes, carrots, lentils, beans, rice or pasta. Sometimes we have fish (sardines, tuna) and seasonal fruit.

Your dinner could be soup, cous-cous, Moroccan tagine, olives and could include nuts and fruit.

Entre ces deux points, vous aurez gravi le M’Goun (4067m), 2ème sommet du Maroc, vous aurez marché les pieds dans la rivière M’Goun entre ses gorges impressionnantes et vous aurez traversé les hauts plateaux qui servent de pâturages pour les troupeaux des berbères semi-nomades.

I have special food needs. Can you be more specific about what we’ll be eating during the trekking trips?

All the meals included during the trek and are very healthy, including Couscous, Tagines, Pita bread, vegetables, salad, fresh eggs, fish, olives, nuts and fruits. They are locally harvested and contain no additives or preservatives. Vegetarian meals are available and we’re happy to accommodate any other food allergies you may have.
The water is included in some of our treks otherwise it’s available to buy from villages, or you can use your own method to purify it.
Some people like to bring their own food supplements if they have special dietary requirements. If you like to drink herbal teas, bring your own. Moroccan tea tends to be a real energy booster with gunpowder green mixed with copious amounts of sugar (refreshing and delicious!) Sugarless tea can be requested

La transhumance des nomades Ait Atta

Chaque printemps, des nomades Aït Atta de la tribu Aït Slilou de N’kob, quittent leurs pâturages du Jbel Saghro, dans le Sud Est de Ouarzazate au Maroc, avec leurs troupeaux de chèvres, moutons et chameaux, ainsi que toute leur famille. Les caravanes se mettent en route pour traverser la plaine du Dadès et remonter sur les pentes Sud de l’Atlas à plus de 3.000m. Ils atteignent alors le lac Izourar et ses hauts plateaux. Une partie s’y installe ; les autres continuent sur le versant Nord de l’Atlas jusque sur les pâturages de Tamda entre 2800 m et 2400m d’altitude.

L’arrivée de la transhumance à Tamda se fait le 1er juin. Les populations d’accueil, celles de l'Atlas ont le choix des meilleurs emplacements. Le lendemain, les nomades Ait Atta entrent sur ces territoires et se répartissent les emplacements. A l’automne, la transhumance s’effectue en sens inve

Trek ascension du M’goun: il s’agit d’une randonnée de 4 jours de marche qui commence par la vallée d’Aït Bougmez (la vallée heureuse) en passant par les bergeries de Azib N’Ikkis avant d’arrivée au plateau de Tarkeddit au pied du massif M’goun où nous rencontrons les nomades qui viennent de vallées au haut Atlas avec leurs troupeaux (les chèvres, les moutons, les dromadaires). L’ascension du M’goun nous ouvre encore de nouveaux horizons vers l’ensemble de la chaîne de l’Atlas, et au sud, vers la vallée de Dadès, le djebel Sargho et les étendues sahariennes.
