The Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca, Morocco is one of the most famous and impressive monuments in the world. It was commissioned by King Hassan II as a grand symbol of national pride, faith, and Moroccan craftsmanship. 
📍 Location & Design
• It is built on a promontory right above the Atlantic Ocean, inspired by a verse in the Qur’an about God’s throne being above the water, which is why part of the mosque overlooks the sea. 
• Designed by French architect Michel Pinseau, the mosque blends traditional Moroccan art with modern technology. 
📆 Construction
• The foundation stone was laid on July 12, 1986. 
• It took about seven years to build, involving thousands of Moroccan craftspeople working on wood carving, zellige tilework, marble, and more. 
• The mosque was officially opened on August 30, 1993, timed with the celebration of the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday. 
📏 Size & Features
• The mosque can hold up to 105,000 worshippers – 25,000 inside and 80,000 in the courtyard. 
• Its minaret is about 210 m tall, one of the tallest religious towers in the world, topped with a laser that points toward Mecca. 
• Inside, you’ll find a retractable roof, beautiful cedar wood ceilings, marble floors, and intricate mosaics. 
• Unlike many mosques, non-Muslims can visit on guided tours (outside prayer times), though modest dress is required. 
This mosque is not only a place of worship but also a major cultural and architectural landmark of Morocco and Casablanca.
