Starting from Tantan, the adventure begins at the edge of the Sahara, where the Atlantic gradually fades behind the vast, mineral landscape. The road winds southeast, traversing the austere and captivating scenery that leads to Assa, an ancient caravan city surrounded by palm groves, and then to Icht, a secluded oasis nestled between mountains and desert.
At Foum Zguid, the last outpost before the great Saharan tracks, the tarmac disappears, giving way to pure adventure. The route then crosses the breathtaking immensity of Lake Iriki, a vast, silent white expanse where sky and earth seem to merge.
The majestic dunes of Erg Chegaga rise on the horizon, undulating in the wind like a frozen ocean. Here, the desert reveals its full grandeur: blazing sunsets, starry nights of rare purity, and absolute silence. Passing through Hassi Fougani, the expedition continues its journey eastward to Merzouga.
The highlight is experienced in the heart of the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi, veritable mountains of sand sculpted by the wind.
