Pyay (also known as Prome) is principal town of Pyay Township in the Bago Region in Burma(Myanmar). Pyay is located on the Ayeyarwady River (Irrawaddy River) and is 260 km (160 mi) northwest of Yangon.

The name "Pyi" means "country" in Burmese, and refers to the ruins of the Pyu capital of Sri Ksetra ( "City of Splendour" in Sanskrit), which is located 8 km (5.0 mi) to the southeast of modern Pyay and is in the village of Hmawa.

The British Irrawaddy Flotilla Company established the current town in the late 19th century on the Ayeyarwady River (Irrawaddy River) as a transshipment point for cargo between Upper and Lower Burma.

The district of Pyay encompasses the valley of the Ayeyarwady, located between Thayetmyo,Hinthada and Tharrawaddy districts. Along the western side of Pyay District are the Rakhine (Arakan) Yoma mountain ranges, and along the eastern side are the Bago (Pegu) Yoma mountain ranges. Pyay District's main towns are Pyay, Shwedaung, and Paungde.

Bagan (Burmese: formerly Pagan) is an ancient city located in the Mandalay Region of Burma(Myanmar). From the 9th to 13th centuries, the city was the capital of the Kingdom of Pagan, the first kingdom to unify the regions that would later constitute modern Myanmar. During the kingdom's height between the 11th and 13th centuries, over 10,000 Buddhist temples, pagodas and monasteries were constructed in the Bagan plains alone, of which the remains of over 2200 temples and pagodas still survive to the present day.

There is a well-known saying of Myanmar people : "If you are a real Myanmar, you must have been to Bagan." Bagan is spirit of history of Myanmar.

The Bagan Archaeological Zone is a main draw for the country's nascent tourism industry.

Kyaiktiyo Pagoda
(also known asGolden Rock) is a well-known Buddhist pilgrimage site in Mon State, Myanmar. It is a pagoda small (7.3 metres (24 ft)) built on the of a granitetop boulder covered with gold leaves pasted on by devotees. According to legend, the Golden Rock itself is precariously perched on a strand of the Buddha's hair. The balancing rock seems to defy gravity, as it perpetually appears to be on the verge of rolling down the hill. The rock and the pagoda are at the top of Mt. Kyaiktiyo. It is the third most important Buddhist pilgrimage site in Burma after the Shwedagon Pagoda and theMahamuni Pagoda. A glimpse of the "gravity defying" Golden Rock is believed to be enough of an inspiration for any person to turn to Buddhism.
