Señor Travel Bug is heading on vacation from 10th June to the end of August. With two friends, I’m cycling across the United States of America, from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic. If interested you’ll be able to follow the 3,500 mile (5,500km) adventure on our new YouTube channel as three old@guys learn how to film and then edit videos, while getting to know inland America away from the cities, on the ranches, in the mountains and plains, at their rodeos. Two ‘children’ of Jalisco, born & bred in California, visited their parents’ country’s Modern Wonder of the World today, smaller some of Mexico’s very best tortillas and swing, jumped and swam in a cenote. Next heritage level unlocked.

A Manchester, UK family have come to Mexico for the first time and for two full weeks. They had to postpone their excursion to Chichen Itza but got lucky to find another free date before they left - Senor Travel Bug’s last free day until September. Their son’s favourite was the local food & drink, the daughter tbe cenote and the parents the ball court and the ‘church’ on the classic side of this Wonder of the World.

With Chichén Itzá finally open again this week Señor Travel Bug was back on the road. This Massachusetts family were celebrating a 21st birthday, an 18th birthday and a high school graduation with a first trip outside the US for their high school graduate. Not bad to start with a modern wonder of the world!! They opted for two of the most iconic cenotes in the area, one closed and the other open, a rope swing, some jumps and then pure tranquility. Special (and very fun even for me!) day.

My fifth training day on the bike ahead of the big ride next month across the USA. Today it took me down the coast from Cancún to Tulum, a ride of exactly 100 miles (I bailed out and took the bus back!). While there I examined how hard-hit Tulum is for its fall in tourism caused by excessive hotel, restaurant and taxi prices, the introduction of the Jaguar Park making the ruins expensive too, but then also restricted beach access, and a massive waves (pun intended) of sargassum this season. Its architecture and fabrics are magnificent but it’s paying the price now for its greed.

Watching my football team, Aston Villa, in a sports bar on Cancún as they lift a major European trophy for the first time since I was 6 years old (and don’t remember it!). What a day!

A fourth day back on the bike ready for next month’s ride across the US, Pacific to Atlantic with two friends. I’m trying to get back into shape, but also learn photo-editing all while sharing some gems of this region’s history as a tour guide. Enjoy my coast, enjoy my home!

A half- day spent touring in Cancún on the bike. As well as seeing several beaches, a couple of Mayan archaeological sites, the town square and other attractions, the real highlight was meeting the people of Cancún and hearing their stories. Javier and Yolanda truly filled me with joy.
