April and the devil winds. Many times I get the question if the devil winds can be forecasted on a long range periods.

This winds can be generated by low pressure systems lowering the temperatures in the mountains pushing an airstream through the narrow pass where the lack of mountains in between the Sierra Madre makes it the only constant of this thrill
Some devil winds will be hot, coming from the opposite side, the Caribe, hurricanes and storms can generate the same winds but warm.
And not all the winds coming from the east are ment to destroy the surf. They are the responsible of bringing sand back to the beaches where we continue to enjoy this long sand bottom pointbreaks in Oaxaca Mexico

Empty days. Register of 28 of October of 2011

Water temperatures were colder than what we were use to, we were the only ones out, while 4 waves in a set will come every 10 minutes barreling from top to bottom from behind the rocks all the way to the inside.
Epic good old days.

The reason my life career became to be the surf guide.
The majority of knowledge that I have been able to gathered about forecasting and surfing in general, from learning to read the wave in the present and the future, to snapt under the lip and get the deepest and for sure the love for the search of the next amazing tube ride, comes from my friend that introduce me to the magical world of surf through the duty of filming his strike missions during the last 17 years. Observing the ocean and him surf during literally hundreds of swells and surftrips in the area made me understand that you become in what you surround yourself with, that’s why I became isurfmex surf guide for life.

This is an appreciation post after my interview with where I refer to my friend as an old gnarly wave surfer that was looking for the craziest and deepest barrels, we met when he was 49 years young and I’m almost his age when we meet and I can say that it’s been an honor to share all this time surfing with amazing people like him and learn from his experience .

The constant during the time this pictures were taken and today is change.
Back then there was no interest of the common man to be around this areas where the shallow waters and unbeaten paths will be common; today though the roads are wider and more transit and the interest of the common men has arrive to the thrive of believing ownership is possible in the shores and breaking waters. Thankful for the opportunity to enjoy both worlds and document this glorious days of fun.
All changes come for good, depends on the focus and the gathered you surround yourself with.
