Hanal Pixán vs. Day of the Dead
Two ways to honor those who have passed.

Hanal Pixán, meaning “Food of the souls”, is a deeply Maya tradition. Its three-level altars (sky, earth, underworld) are decorated with gourds, candles, and the green cross, while families prepare the pib (mucbipollo), clean their homes and cemeteries, and welcome back their loved ones.
Unlike the Day of the Dead, now celebrated as a global and festive symbol, Hanal Pixán remains intimate and spiritual, directly connected to the Maya language, worldview, and heart.

Le Hanal Pixán, qui signifie « Nourriture des âmes », est une tradition profondément maya. Ses autels à trois niveaux (ciel, terre, inframonde) sont décorés de calebasses, de bougies et de la croix verte, tandis que les familles préparent le pib (mucbipollo), nettoient leurs maisons et leurs cimetières et accueillent le retour de leurs proches.
