Cubera snapper are the reason you check your drag twice before the first drop.

Captain Papayo put a client on this one off San Jose del Cabo. These fish live in structure, they know exactly where the rocks are, and they head straight for them the second they feel steel. No long runs, no jumps, just raw pulling power and about ten seconds to turn their head before it is over.

Inshore fishing here does not get the attention the marlin does, but pound for pound this is the hardest fight in Los Cabos.

Blue water, flat morning, and a yellowfin that did exactly what yellowfin do.

This one came offshore of San Jose del Cabo aboard our super panga out of Puerto Los Cabos Marina. Clean conditions, short run, and a fish that put a real bend in the rod before it hit the deck.

Tuna are one of the few species down here that will test your gear and your legs at the same time. Nobody walks off the boat wondering if it was worth it.

Sailfish landed today aboard our 26ft Super Panga with Captain Pancho.

This one came in badly stressed after a long fight, too exhausted to survive a release. Instead of letting it go to waste, we brought it back to the dock and turned it into a solid meal at home.

Release is always the goal on billfish. But when a fish is already spent, the right call is the dinner table, not a photo op followed by a fish that never makes it.

Yellowfin tuna is what everyone is asking about right now, and Puerto Los Cabos is the right place to be asking from.

The pattern is simple: find the porpoise, find the tuna. Our captains run wide when the sign is out there and stay on the school as long as it holds. Live bait, light drag, patient boat work. That is the whole game.

Two different fights, two different fish, same trip out of Los Cabos.

First the yellowfin came up fast and heavy. Then this rainbow runner hit and gave us a completely different kind of pull, faster runs, more stubborn on the surface.

Days like this are why we love this water. You never know what's going to grab the bait next.
