🪸 Sometimes, the biggest signs of success are the smallest ones.

When we build coral nurseries, we're not just creating a place for corals to grow—we're giving nature the opportunity to return on its own.

The appearance of coralline algae is one of the first signs that a reef is becoming healthy again. This crust of pink and purple algae creates the perfect surface for future corals to settle and grow.

And nature didn't stop there.

A tiny fish has already made one of the nursery tubes its home, reminding us that restoration is about far more than corals. Every returning species is another step toward rebuilding a living, thriving reef.

🪸 After 7 years of nothing... one colony finally spawned here in Cozumel!

A single Grooved Brain Coral (Diploria labyrinthiformis) released thousands of gamete bundles, and our teams were ready. Guided by ’s predictions, volunteers from and partners carefully collected and fertilized them.

The true miracle? Even though only one colony spawned, an incredible 15–25% successfully fertilized! These coral babies have now settled onto .international substrates and are growing safely in our nurseries until they are ready to return to the reef. By raising them in a protected lab environment, we dramatically increase their chances of surviving into attached polyps—bypassing predators and the incredibly harsh odds they face in the wild.

This collaborative victory was made possible by our amazing partners: , , 's Wave of Change, , and .

Every successful spawn gives us hope that the next generation of reefs is already beginning! 🌊

Three months ago, we started this shallow water adoption nursery. Today, Anjani takes you back to check in. 🌈

The corals are definitely larger with more branches. Some corals are clearly encrusting onto the rope. Coralline algae is claiming the structures, and a little friend has moved into one of the tubes.
That’s good progress. Adopt a coral, name it and follow along in its growth!

🐠 The more you understand a reef, the more you realize everything is connected.

Every species has a role. Some keep algae under control, others depend on healthy corals for shelter, and a few are so unique you can only find them in one corner of the world.

Learning to identify reef fish changes the way you dive. Suddenly, you’re not just looking at beautiful marine life — you’re beginning to understand the relationships that keep an entire ecosystem alive.

And once you know what you’re looking at, you start noticing what the reef is telling you.
