"Luiz leads deadline-day Fantasy additions"

The Scout runs us through all 19 new players added to FPL

Wednesday's transfer deadline has seen a host of new Fantasy Premier League assets added to the game.

Hull City were the busiest club on show with as many as five new players arriving on their FPL roster.

The capture of Cardiff City goalkeeper David Marshall (£4.5million) poses an immediate problem for 20% of FPL managers. The Scot will challenge Eldin Jakupovic for the No 1 jersey at the KCOM Stadium and the £4.1m shotstopper could move to the substitutes bench.

The Tigers moved for Manchester United's Will Keane (£4.5m) to reinforce options up front. If Keane earns regular starts, he would hand FPL managers another cheap option for the third striker slot.

He is joined by another Man Utd youngster, with left-sided midfielder James Weir (£4.5m) recruited to Hull's ranks. Norwegian midfielder Markus Henriksen (£5.5m) arrived on loan from AZ Alkmaar.

Finally, striker Dieumerci Mbokani (£5.5m) has also joined Mike Phelan's squad on loan from Dynamo Kiev - he returns to the FPL player list following his spell with Norwich City last season.

An array of defensive options have landed in the game in the last 24 hours and Chelsea's reunion with David Luiz (£6.0m) is undoubtedly one of the most eye-catching.

The Brazilian rejoins from Paris Saint-Germain and will immediately contest positions in Antonio Conte's back four. Luiz could also be pushed into a holding-midfield role, an intriguing FPL prospect given his penchant for long-range efforts.

Marcos Alonso (£6.0m) is another new arrival at Stamford Bridge. The left-back is set to challenge Cesar Azpilicueta (£6.0m), casting further doubt over Conte's first-choice rearguard.

Arsenal have also bolstered their defensive options. Shkodran Mustafi (£6.0m) joins from Valencia and should plug straight into the back four in the absence of the injured Per Mertesacker (£5.0m) and Gabriel (£5.0m).

His arrival is likely to end Rob Holding's (£4.5m) brief spell alongside Laurent Koscielny (£6.0m).

Swansea City's swoop for Barnsley's Alfie Mawson (£4.5m) could also limit another budget FPL option. The 22-year-old signing will now push Jordi Amat (£4.1m), owned by 13.5% of FPL managers, for starts in Francesco Guidolin's defence.

Stoke City acquired defender Bruno Martins Indi (£5.0m) on loan from Porto. The Dutchman will fight for the slot alongside Ryan Shawcross (£5.0m) in Mark Hughes' defence but can also provide cover at left-back.

Michail Antonio's (£7.0m) shifts at right-back could be at an end following West Ham United's signing of Spain defender, Álvaro Arbeloa (£5.0m). The former Liverpool full-back joins as a free agent, a significant signing if it allows Antonio regular starts in an attacking berth.

"New signings give Spurs pace and power"

The Scout on how Moussa Sissoko and Georges-Kevin Nkoudou affect Tottenham Hotspur's FPL potential

Mauricio Pochettino went into transfer deadline day having clearly identifed the gaps in his squad that needed bolstering.

After watching his Tottenham Hotspur side struggle to contain the electric Sadio Mane (£8.9m) in a Gameweek 3 home draw against Liverpool, the Argentinian cited a lack of direct options in his attacking-midfield contingent.

Four days later, Spurs boosted their numbers by acquiring Moussa Sissoko from Newcastle United and Marseille’s Georges-Kevin Nkoudou (both £7.0m).

Sissoko arrives at White Hart Lane on the back of some encouraging displays for France at UEFA Euro 2016.

The dynamic midfielder offers Pochettino an option on the right of his preferred 4-2-3-1, though is also capable of playing centrally in front of the back four, raiding forward to join attacks from deep.

Having failed to score more than four times in each of his four years in the Premier League with Newcastle, it remains to be seen whether the Frenchman is capable of establishing himself as a viable Fantasy Premier League asset.

Nonetheless, a total of 57 key passes last season – the same as Swansea City playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson (£7.4m) – is indicative of the creativity that provided eight assists for the relegated Magpies in 2015/16.

The highly-rated Nkoudou, meanwhile, delivered five goals and three assists in his first year at Marseille last season.

Capable of playing on both flanks, his blistering speed and ability to take on an opponent affords Spurs a different dimension. Initially, he may be eased into contention, with Pochettino utilising his pace late on in matches.

A look back to the final few fixtures of last season explains Pochettino’s shopping spree.

Spurs picked up two points in the final four Gameweeks as their title bid dissolved, with fatigue setting in over those crucial last four fixtures.

With UEFA Champions League duties also to contend with this term, Spurs also acquired striker Vincent Janssen (£7.9m) earlier in the summer as they look to cope with a busier schedule.

Already this season, we’ve witnessed Harry Kane (£10.9m) and Dele Alli (£8.4m) utilised in deeper positions due to Janssen’s impact.

With more options at their disposal out wide, Christian Eriksen (£8.4m) and Erik Lamela (£7.1m) could have their minutes managed as Pochettino seeks to prevent another case of burnout.

Good news for Spurs, perhaps, but as far as FPL managers are concerned, the threat of rest and rotation suddenly looms large over the White Hart Lane outfit.

"The Scout on where Arsenal's new signings fit into the Gunners' plans over next few Gameweeks"

In the final days of the transfer window, Arsene Wenger turned to Spain to strengthen his options in both defence and attack.

After seeing his side concede five times in the opening three Gameweeks, the Arsenal manager acquired Shkodran Mustafi (£6.0million) from Valencia.

A ball-playing centre-back, the Germany international is expected to feature alongside Laurent Koscielny (£6.0m) in the heart of defence, ending Rob Holding’s (£4.5m) run of three successive starts.

Mustafi carries a real goal threat from the back, too, having scored six times in his two seasons with Valencia.

With combative new signing Granit Xhaka (£5.4m) now installed in the double-pivot, Fantasy Premier League managers may well consider investing in the Gunners’ defence as the fixtures turn in their favour.

According to the Fixture Difficult Ranking (FDR) system introduced to Fantasy Premier League this season, Arsenal are given an FDR score of one in five of their next seven matches.

Upcoming meetings against Hull City, Burnley, Swansea City, Middlesbrough and Sunderland look promising for a defence that chalked up 18 clean sheets in 2015/16.

Wenger also drafted in Lucas Perez (£8.5m) from Deportivo La Coruna on the back of 17 goals and eight assists in 36 LaLiga outings.

The new arrival should offer competition to Olivier Giroud (£9.0m) for the lone striker role, though is no like-for-like replacement for the Frenchman as Perez won only four aerial duels in Spain’s top division last season.

Instead, he offers Wenger a more versatile option and can play in any of the four attacking positions.

Perez also places Theo Walcott’s (£7.5m) pitch time under threat. The latter has started all of Arsenal’s fixtures so far, chipping in with a goal and an assist.

At present, though, Perez’ impact on the first XI is a little more uncertain than that of Mustafi.

FPL managers who are eyeing up the Gunners attack ahead of the aforementioned schedule should look to the security offered by Alexis Sanchez (£10.9m) and Mesut Ozil (£9.5m).

Both netted goals in last weekend’s win over Watford, with Sanchez’ pair of assists helping him to a 16-point return – the highest haul of the season.
