Breaking News: Fish River Hiking season postponed

Namibia Wildlife Resorts has confirmed that the upcoming Fish River Canyon hiking season has been postponed until further notice due to concerns raised to the tourism ministry about rising water levels in the canyon.
The hiking season usually starts from 1 May to 30 September.
The spokesperson for NWR, Nelson Ashipala, said that current conditions may pose significant challenges to hikers and that clients who have already booked are given the option to postpone to a later time or get a refund.
Updates regaring the reopeing will be communicated in due course, said Ashipala.

SWAKOP RIVER REACHED THE ATLANTIC OCEAN! 1 April 2025

When the Swakop River reaches the ocean, it’s a rare and exciting event because the river is mostly dry, only flowing during exceptional rainfall in its catchment area. This usually happens when Namibia experiences above-average rains inland, particularly in the highlands where the river originates.

Here’s why it’s such a big deal:

It’s Rare – The Swakop River only reaches the ocean once every few years, sometimes even decades apart. Most of the time, the water disappears into the desert before making it to the sea.

Caution ⚠ The Dordabis route to the South is currently also not an option as the rivers are flowing too strong . The South is currently cut off from the rest of the country as most rivers are in full flow .
