American Airlines has nominated Kathryn Farmer, chief executive of BNSF Railway, to join its board of directors. The announcement was made on 18 April by the Fort Worth-based carrier, which stated that Farmer’s nomination will be presented for a vote during American’s annual shareholder meeting scheduled for 11 June.

If elected, Farmer will serve on the board’s finance and safety committees. Greg Smith, American’s chairman, described her as a highly respected leader who will bring valuable, relevant, and proven senior leadership experience to the company and its boardroom.

Farmer has been the CEO of BNSF Railway since 2021, marking the peak of a 30-year career in the rail industry. Prior to assuming the top position, she served as the chief operations officer at BNSF, where she was responsible for overseeing train operations, maintenance, sourcing, safety, and training.

American Airlines also confirmed that it will report its first-quarter financial results on 24 April. The upcoming results will provide insight into the carrier’s financial performance ahead of its annual meeting.
