🇨🇦 Canada has quietly launched a new TR-to-PR pathway that could give 33,000 temporary foreign workers a chance to become permanent residents.

Here’s what we know so far 👇

• The program was revealed by Immigration Minister Lena Metlege Diab and is reportedly already soft-launched.
• It will create 33,000 PR spots across 2026–2027.
• Designed for temporary workers already living and working in Canada.
• Priority sectors may include agriculture, hospitality, transportation, healthcare, and care services.
• Workers in rural communities may receive additional focus.

Canada LMIA is Now Easier to Get.

Starting April 2023, the Temporary Foreign Worker Program will be transitioning to online Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) applications.
Employment and Social Development Canada will require Canadian employers (or their third-party representatives) to submit their LMIA application to Service Canada via the LMIA Online Portal. As of April 3, 2023, paper or fax submissions will no longer be accepted.

The new LMIA Online Portal will provide employers with a more streamlined and efficient application process. Employers will be able to submit their LMIA applications, complete or return to an application before submitting it to Service Canada, upload supporting documents, pay LMIA fees (if applicable), access real-time updates on the application status, and view correspondence and decision letters issued by Service Canada, among other options.
