The Kalabari people
An Ijaw ethnic group in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. Originally called the Awome but was later changed to Kalabari by their ancestor Perebo Kalabari, the son of Meinowei.

The people occupy a series of island among the mangrove swamps of the Delta where they engage in fishing and trading. Their fishermen are known for their bravery and skills, venturing far out to sea to catch fish and other seafood

Also known for their vibrant masquerade festivals, intricate traditional attires and delicious seafood cuisine.

They have a monarchical system with a king known as the Amanyanabo serving as the paramount ruler.
