Swendly Design & Illustration

Swendly Design & Illustration Swendly Design & Illustration To me, aside from solving a creative problem, good design should give the viewer an emotionally satisfying experience.

So creating designs that touch the viewer on an emotional level is what I aim for. I do this by starting my design process with the question: ‘What emotion should this image evoke?’ I specialize in character design and illustration.

During these past years I’ve developed a passion for understanding the design and mechanics of the human body. These are some of my daily studies to analyze how the body functions in order to perform various actions (also referred to as gesture drawing). For this type of study each drawing is done in a short amount of time (1 to 10 minutes) to keep to focus on capturing the action and not getting distracted by details.

Hi Everyone,

I have contemplated writing a FORCE Anatomy book for years and held off since there are so many anatomy books already in existence. I have seen these books and what frustrates me about them is that the show muscle shapes and name the muscles.
I wanted more.
I proudly bring you FORCE: Drawing Human Anatomy!
This is the biggest of the FORCE books, over 330 pages! The book focuses on the function of the muscles, why they are located where they are, anatomy overlays on my FORCE Life drawings AND it is color coded per regions of the body so it is easy to find the information you are looking for! I really hope you enjoy the book!
Available for presale here!

Sequential art done for WE CAN Young, a project meant to raise awareness and educate teens on Banaire, Statia and Saba about sexually transgressive behavior. They sent me eight different situations that they wanted to discuss with their target audience and asked me to illustrate each in the form of a three panel comic. All images are copyright Movisie (www.movisie.nl).

Character designs done for the ' BEYOURSELF' workbook. The book is meant to help students between 17 and 24 years in Aruba and the Netherlands to discover their talents and choose an education accordingly. The characters are the mascots of the project and each one has traits and struggles that the target audience can identify with. In addition I also designed a poster which is being used to promote the project. All images are copyright 'Stichting Wendel on the run'.
