In December 2022, doctors told me there was a real chance I wouldn't walk out of the hospital. That moment made one thing clear: I had been spending my energy on the wrong business.

I closed my e-commerce company and went all in on what I actually love. Today Hidden Holland helps North American travelers plan more thoughtful trips to the Netherlands.

You don't have to go far to enjoy Dutch windmills in the countryside. When I take people on my countryside tour, I make sure my guests get to see more than where the tour buses take you.

Have you ever been to a prestigious art museum in the middle of a national park? The beautiful Kröller-Müller museum offers just that. Surrounded by trees and bird sounds you can enjoy the 2nd largest Vincent van Gogh collection in the country here, or the extraordinary sculpture garden outside! And when you’re done at the museum hop on a free white bike and explore the park. Amersfoort is one of the most beautiful cities in the country, yet almost no tourists ever visit. Just 30-45 minutes from Amsterdam, it offers so much to see. Today I toured with a guest and had such a great time showing this wonderful place that 99.9% of visitors completely miss.

Haarlem is one of my favorite Dutch cities outside of Amsterdam and SO easy to get to. Here I took a photo of Teylers Museum, openend in 1778!!

Inside you find a world to discover from paintings to fossils and everything, almost literally, in between. Make sure to see the Oval Room once you’re inside!

Today Herman and I took the Steam Tram (train) from Hoorn to Medemblik and back. The steam trams AND boat are a recognized museum. If you’re a train/boat aficionado this a great activity to do and learn about Dutch tram history, or just enjoy the typical Dutch countryside scenery from the tram or the boat.

Yesterday, I took my guests on a private tour to Keukenhof and the tulip fields in the northeast of the Netherlands. The Keukenhof looked absolutely stunning this year.

The tulips fields look amazing right now! 👀 🌷 The Keukenhof is amazing. But for the true experience you need to head further north. The Noordoostpolder is full with endless fields in every color. When you go, please respect these are farmers and never step in the flowers! Don’t want to rent a car? I still have a few places left this week for a private tour 🚙. I’ll pick you up from your accommodation and we head north, plus a visit to Unesco Schokland and Giethoorn. Just send me a DM or look at the website.

Happy Kings day 2025 👑🇳🇱 🤗 I celebrate it traditionally in a small forest village with a Kings day market, Dutch pancake restaurants, and of course a traditional King’s day pastry: Tompouce; flaked pastry, custard, orange glaze and some whipped cream. How are you celebrating? 🎉
