A fresh but sunny ☀️ Sunday today. On my walk around my hometown I decided to take pictures from the ‘espalier’ trees in my neighborhood.

This is a typical Dutch way of pruning trees.
When branches are young and flexible they are bend sideways and attached to a frame.

The function as a separation creating privacy, they create shade in summer with their leaves on (many houses have no airconditioning), and it is a way to have trees in narrow streets, preventing branches to grow over the road.

The temperature difference is massive! As shown in the photo, the soil temperature between bare ground and vegetation just a metre apart can vary by as much as 8.7°C!
