Today I visited the wonderful First and Second World War museum Musée France 40 Véhicules in Fismes, France. The building in which the museum is housed has a rich history and was used several times by French, German, and American troops during both world wars.

The ground floor displays an impressive Second World War collection, while the first floor is entirely dedicated to the First World War and features beautiful dioramas.

At the French war cemetery La Nécropole nationale de Sept-Saulx, the French Brigadier General Henri Van Waetermeulen is buried. Severely wounded by a shell fragment, he died on 16 July 1918 in Ambulance 13/20, which had been set up in Sept-Saulx. Information at the cemetery states that he was one of the 41 generals who died for France and also the last general to die during the First World War.

The beautiful monastery of Saint-Mihiel houses, in addition to an impressive library, a museum dedicated to the First World War. The museum tells the story of the occupation during this period and how the inhabitants suffered under it. It also highlights the American liberation of Saint-Mihiel.

The museum is not always open, so be sure to stop by the Tourist Office located opposite.

Today I was at Fort Loncin in Liège, Belgium. It was a drizzly day, and there was only one visitor — me. It was very impressive to walk around there alone and to see the sheer force with which the fort had been torn apart. The large steel domes were scattered around, ripped open, and sometimes even turned upside down. Also impressive was the tribute to the fallen Belgian defenders of this fort.
