Just a few days to go and i can finaly go back to where i belong.❤
It has been over 1,5 years since i left Marrakech after six months in the first total lockdown. I truly can't wait!
With a brand new showroom in the Netherlands and still the same team we are so ready to continue to create magic again. (And again and again)

Today was my first day back in the medina of Marrakech. the heat was
indescribable together with wearing my mask. So i am sorry for the heavy breathing. 🙈 Good to be back but also still heartbreaking to see my beloved city like this. But we made it till here, everything will be allright. And thank god we got so many new orders for so it is amazing that i can say that we can support so many people with that to get back on track in these hard times. ♡

Vanmorgen ben ik gebeld door de telegraaf over de toestand in Marokko.
Zoals de meeste inmiddels wel weten zit ook ik hier sinds de lockdown "vast" en het ziet er niet naar uit dat daar snel verandering in gaat komen.

Is mijn verhaal het meest schrijnend? Nee zeker niet. Maar ook ik wordt verscheurd door twijfel, onzekerheid en ook wel angst om hier nog enigzins normaal te kunnen functioneren. En het gevoel niet weg te kunnen is vreselijk.
Avondklok, gewapend leger en politie is nu de normale gang van zaken. Een mondkapje sinds deze week verplicht. En zonder attest gaat de straat op gaan ook niet door. En de consequenties zijn niet voor de poes.

Daar wilde de telegraaf mij graag over spreken en ik heb geprobeerd mijn/onze huidige situatie hier in Marrakech en Marokko enigzins toe te lichten.
Duizende Nederlanders zitten hier vast en de autoriteiten komen al weken geen steek verder.
Ik hoop met heel mijn hart dat iedereen snel herenigd zal worden met zijn of haar familie en geliefden. ❤

Distance means so little, when life means so much~

Dag 10 lockdown in Marokko. Eerder schreef ik weinig. Ik zocht tevergeefs naar mijn gevoel en woorden. Wat begon als een ver van mijn bedshow hier in Marokko is nu de situatie waar ook ik midden in zit en voorlopig niet uit kan. Terwijl ik dit schrijf heb ik de luxe dat ik in de avondzon op mijn nu zo gekoesterde balkon bivakeer. Avondklok om 18 uur. De straten zijn leeg, Marrakech is verlaten, stil gelegd, bevroren.

Op Marokko ben ik trots. Op haar maatregelen om ons uit nog verdere ellende te houden. Of het lukt? Ik vraag het me af. Ik doe braaf mee met de lockdown, hoewel er hier ook geen andere keuzes zijn. Marokko regeert mijn inziens met strakke hand. Een rebels wandelingetje maken zit er niet in, maar ik wil het ook niet. Uit respect en uit gezond boeren verstand. En ja.. ook wel omdat ik diep van binnen voor het eerst in mijn leven wel een beetje bang ben.

Hier hebben we het leger. En niet zo weinig ook. Ik vind het een intimiderende toestand om als dagelijks brood tanks en trucks door mijn straat te zien rijden. Gepresenteerd op een blaadje van een rood gouden gloed die mijn Marrakech altijd zo glanzend maakte.
Ik functioneer normaal in chaos en heb moeite met dit regime. Maar ik vecht ook tegen heimwee en eenzaamheid. Ik ben gewend aan de geluiden van de stad en nu hoor ik enkel vogels. Prachtig bijzonder voor een moment. Maar ik mis Marrakech, terwijl ik hier toch echt ben.
Ook mis ik Nederland. Het niet terug kunnen naar mijn familie, vrienden en geliefden voelt soms alsof ik gevangen zit. Gevangen in mijn zo geliefde Marokko.
Maar het komt goed, dat weet ik ook.

En ja, corona zorgt ondanks alle afstanden ook voor nieuwe vriendschappen, mooie momenten en vernieuwde inzichten. Ik kan jullie niet genoeg bedanken voor al jullie liefde, interesse en steun!
Maar dit is wel Afrika. Er is hier geen vangnet voor de meeste mensen en dat zet dan meteen alles weer in perspectief. Ik hoop dan ook met heel mijn hart dat ik deel mag uitmaken om straks alle zeilen bij te zetten om Marrakech en heel Marokko weer te laten glanzen in haar prachtige rood gouden gloed.
