Winter driving in Northern Norway is no joke — and finally, there’s a film that explains it properly.
The Northern Norway Tourist Board, together with Trygg Trafikk and the rental car companies, has released a new animated safety video for international travelers. It’s now available in Dutch, Spanish, English, French, and Chinese — perfect for anyone planning to rent a car in Tromsø or anywhere in the Arctic.
The film covers essential winter-road rules most visitors don’t know:
• A road without yellow stripes does not mean one single lane
• Why you must use proper pull-offs instead of stopping on the roadside
• How winter conditions multiply braking distance
• And the reality of snow, black ice, and zero-visibility weather in the Arctic
As a local operator driving these roads every night, we fully support this initiative — and we recommend every traveller watches it before hitting the road. It helps keep you safe, protects other drivers, and ensures smoother winter operations across the region.
We also appreciate the ongoing cooperation from Tromsø Police, Northern Norway Tourist Board, and all local authorities working to keep our visitors safe.
You can find the videos in the Tourist Board’s media bank — and we’ll share the versions on our stories and highlights.
