Some losses are too heavy for words, and the tragedy on Broad Peak is one of them.
Today, the mountains are quieter. The climbing community has lost not just exceptional mountaineers, but fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, partners, teammates, and dear friends. Behind every name is a family whose world has been changed forever.
My deepest condolences go to the families and loved ones of every climber who lost their life on Broad Peak. No words can lessen the pain of such an unimaginable loss, but I hope you find comfort in knowing that they lived with extraordinary courage, unwavering determination, and a passion that inspired people across the world.
The mountains gave them purpose, challenged their spirits, and became a part of who they were. They accepted the risks not because they were fearless, but because they believed in something greater than themselves. Their strength, humility, and love for the mountains will continue to inspire generations of climbers.
As someone who has spent much of my life in the Himalaya, this tragedy feels deeply personal. Every climber knows that the mountains can be beautiful and unforgiving in the same moment. When we lose members of our mountain family, we all grieve together.
May every soul lost on Broad Peak rest in eternal peace. May their families find strength in each other, and may their memories live on in every summit, every prayer flag carried by the wind, and every step taken by those who continue to follow the paths they once walked.
Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.
Rest in peace.
