👏 Great initiative by the government! Nepal has just made permits FREE for 97 remote peaks in Karnali & Sudurpashchim for the next two years.
These are pure, untouched Himalayan beauty between 5,870m and 7,132m.

It feels like the perfect chance to explore the hidden corners of our country and bring some love to the communities out there. These brings out amazing challenges to tourism stakeholders, shareholders as well as local communities along with great opportunities. Ultimately, the vision to reduce over-tourism in Nepal's popular and finest route, this could play a vital role.

Nepal has announced that climbing permits for 97 remote Himalayan peaks will be free for the next two years starting July 17, 2025. These peaks, located in Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, range from 5,870 to 7,132 metres high. The government hopes this will attract more tourists to these underdeveloped areas, create jobs, and boost local income.

Meanwhile, the fee for climbing Mount Everest will rise from $11,000 to $15,000 per person. A new rule also requires climbers to first summit a mountain over 7,000 metres in Nepal before attempting Everest—making some of these free peaks ideal practice climbs.
