The Tibetan meaning of ‘Cho Oyu’ is the Goddess of Turquoise. The mountain is part of the Mahalangur section of the Himalayas, which also consist of Mount Everest. It is located between Tibet-Nepal border, hence expeditions are often mounted from Tibetan side.
