Il Festival di Saga Dawa è una delle celebrazioni più sacre del Buddhismo tibetano. Commemora la nascita, l’illuminazione e il parinirvana del Buddha Shakyamuni. Si celebra il quindicesimo giorno del quarto mese del calendario lunare tibetano, generalmente tra maggio e giugno.
Durante il Saga Dawa, i fedeli compiono pellegrinaggi, preghiere e kora (circumambulazioni attorno ai luoghi sacri), offrono lampade al b***o, innalzano bandiere di preghiera e praticano atti di generosità e compassione. Si crede che le buone azioni compiute in questo periodo portino meriti spirituali moltiplicati.

The Tiji Festival is one of the most important cultural and religious festivals of Upper Mustang. It is celebrated every year in the walled city of Lo Manthang by the local Tibetan Buddhist community.
“Tiji” comes from the Tibetan phrase “Tenpa Chirim,” meaning “Prayer for World Peace.” The festival lasts for three days and features colorful mask dances, traditional music, rituals, and prayers performed by monks of the ancient Chhoede Monastery.
The dances tell the story of Dorje Jono, a deity who defeated evil forces and brought peace and harmony to the land. During the festival, locals and visitors gather in traditional dress to celebrate the rich culture, spirituality, and heritage of Mustang.
