Jimmy Roberts who conceptualized trekking in Nepal (probably in the world)
Jimmy first came to live in Nepal when appointed Military Attaché with the British Embassy Kathmandu in 1958. He is best known as the creator of the trekking industry and inventor of the word ‘trek’ (meaning, an arduous journey on foot in South African Boer). He started catering trekking service with 'Mountain Travel' (1964). His first trek group were six American ladies to Everest Base Camp in 1965.
Just before his death in 1997, he worried about “dirty camp sites and trails littered with rubbish … and crowds of hikers invading the peace of the mountains”. Even then, when Nepal’s visitors numbered a fraction of today, he lobbied for the advantages of quality high-value tourism: “Why are we selling our beautiful mountains so cheap?”

Mustang Caves or Sky Caves of Nepal, a collection of some 10,000 man-made caves dug into the sides of valleys in the Mustang are mysterious caves. Exploration of these caves found several dozen partially mummified human bodies, all at least 2,000 years old. In 2010, a team of mountaineers and archaeologists uncovered 27 human remains in two biggest caves near Samdzong. The relatively intact skeletons – dating from the 3rd to the 8th centuries, before Buddhism came to Mustang – had cut marks on the bones. Scientists believe that this burial ritual may have been related to the Bon-Buddhist practice of sky burial.

Anisha Gurung, a social work student and a national cyclist, along with her friend Sony Gurung took a 6 day long bicycle trip to Panchpokhari. At a time when adventure travel has come to a complete halt, Alisha finds an alternative way amid covid crisis-- Isolation Travel, as a new way of travel. She reveals this kind of travel is easy if one is mindful and takes necessary precautions. She adds, "This isolation travel actually provided us with an opportunity to learn survival skills. It also made us realize our over consumption pattern after having to hike the whole trip with one meal a day."

Saipal, one of the most beautiful, yet fairly uncharted territory in the country , offers trekkers one-of-a-kind experience.
Waterfalls, lakes and ponds, rivers and rivulets, grasslands with brilliant flowers and rich biodiversity—Saipal has it all. Saipal has the kind of unique natural and cultural beauty which cannot be found in other parts of the country. From Chainpur, the headquarters of Bajhang district, it’s an 18km jeep ride and a five-day trek to the Saipal Base Camp (4,100 metres).
