A Heartbreaking Triumph: The Untold Legacy of Kili Pemba Sherpa ☹️

In a devastating reminder of the thin line between historic glory and tragedy, veteran Nepali climber Kili Pemba Sherpa completed the ultimate goal of high-altitude mountaineering just 27 days before losing his life.

On July 3, 2026, the quiet hero from Beding village, Rolwaling, stood atop Nanga Parbat (8,125m) in Pakistan, officially conquering his 14th and final 8,000-meter peak. It was the crowning achievement of a legendary career that included 15 Everest summits and a historic role in the first winter ascent of K2 in 2021.

Tragically, his extraordinary triumph was cut short less than a month later. On July 30, while leading a team on nearby Broad Peak (8,051m), a massive avalanche struck between Camp 2 and Camp 3, taking Kili Pemba's life alongside fellow high-altitude legends.

His story remains a powerful testament to the sheer bravery of Sherpa climbers who dedicate—and ultimately give—their lives to the highest mountains on Earth.

🚨Honoring a Legend: Statue of Late Nirmal 'Nims Dai' Purja to be Built in Myagdi.

In a deeply moving decision, the Annapurna Rural Municipality in Myagdi district has formally decided to build a statue of the late, record-breaking mountaineer Nirmal Purja (Nims Dai) as a tribute to his extraordinary bravery, global achievements, and historic contribution to high-altitude climbing.

The memorial will be placed in his home birthplace of Dana (Ward No. 3), Myagdi district, ensuring his legacy continues to inspire generations to come. Made in close consultation with his family, the municipal decision honors the fallen hero following his tragic passing in a broad peak avalanche.

Additionally, local authorities have recommended renaming Annapurna I (8,091m) to "Nimsdai Annapurna" and proposing to rename the Narchyang trekking route as the "Nimsdai Maurice Herzog Trail," solidifying his immortal bond with the mountains that defined his legendary career.
