🚨BREAKING: American endurance athlete Tyler Andrews officially called off his highly anticipated Everest Fastest Known Time (FKT) attempt on May 24, 2026, turning around near the Balcony at 8,500 meters.

After leaving Base Camp on May 23 for a no-oxygen run, a mid-route weather shift forced Andrews to pivot to an oxygen-assisted speed bid.

Realizing the record was out of reach, Andrews aborted the push, but ground teams confirm he is already planning a fresh, no-O2 attempt later this week.

British Deaf mountaineer and BBC presenter Michael Woods achieved a historic milestone by summiting Mount Everest at 8:25 AM on May 21, 2026, raising vital funds for the National Deaf Children's Society.

However, the triumph quickly turned into a battle for survival when Woods became stranded entirely alone near the treacherous Hillary Step for nearly three hours during his descent. Driven by thoughts of his children, Woods miraculously fought his way down to 8,400m before being met by his Sherpa team and guided safely back to Camp 4.

Recalling the terrifying experience, Woods wrote: “In that moment, my kids came into my mind, and I fought my way back down to stay alive.”

Until now, only a handful of deaf climbers worldwide had ever summited Everest, beginning with Japan’s Satoshi Tamura in 2016.

Mount Everest, rising 8,849 meters above sea level, is both majestic and deadly. More than 300 climbers have lost their lives trying to reach its summit, and over 200 bodies remain frozen on its slopes, preserved by the cold and lack of oxygen.

The most dangerous part of the climb is the “Death Zone,” above 8,000 meters, where the air is too thin for survival. Recovering bodies from this area is extremely risky and costly, so most are left behind.

Many fallen climbers have become landmarks along the route, silent reminders of the mountain’s harsh reality. Everest stands as both a symbol of human courage and a chilling graveyard in the sky.
