Mera Peak (6,476 m / 21,247 ft) is one of Nepal’s most popular trekking peaks. It is located in the Khumbu region, south of Mt. Everest. Known for being one of the “easier” 6000-meter peaks, it is ideal for trekkers aiming to experience high-altitude mountaineering for the first time.

2. Why Mera Peak is Famous
Panoramic Himalayan Views: You can see five 8,000-meter peaks—Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Makalu, and Kanchenjunga.

Beginner-friendly Climb: Requires glacier travel and crampons but no advanced technical climbing.

Remote & Beautiful Trails: Forests, quaint villages, rivers, and dramatic alpine scenery.

High success rate for first-time climbers with proper acclimatization.

Challenges & Preparation

Pikey Peak (also spelled Pikey La, Pikey Hill, or Pikey Ri) is a beautiful and relatively lesser-known trekking destination in the Solukhumbu District of eastern Nepal, within the lower Everest region.

🏔️ Overview

Elevation: About 4,065 m (13,336 ft)

Location: Solukhumbu District, Province 1, Nepal

Region: Lower Khumbu / Everest Region (south of Namche Bazaar)

Coordinates: Approximately 27.53° N, 86.57° E

🌄 Highlights

Panoramic Himalayan Views: From the summit, trekkers can see Mount Everest (8,848 m), Kanchenjunga, Makalu, Lhotse, Annapurna, Thamserku, Gaurishankar, and many others on a clear day.

Cultural Experience: The trail passes through traditional Sherpa, Tamang, and Rai villages, offering authentic local culture, monasteries, and homestay experiences.

Accessibility: Easier and less crowded than the classic Everest Base Camp route, but still offers stunning scenery.

Typical Route (5–7 days)
Common itineraries start from:

Dhap or Phaplu (reachable by jeep or short flight from Kathmandu).

Then trekking via Jhapre – Pikey Base Camp – Pikey Peak – Junbesi – Phaplu.

Difficulty: Moderate — suitable for most fit trekkers; altitude acclimatization still important.

Best Seasons:

Spring (March–May) for rhododendron blooms and clear skies.

Autumn (September–November) for best mountain visibility.

🧘‍♂️ Fun Facts & Name Origin

The name “Pikey” comes from the local Sherpa deity, representing the sky and nature.

It’s said that Sir Edmund Hillary (the first Everest summiter) considered the Pikey viewpoint his favorite place to watch Mount Everest from.
